I came across this for sale and it seems like the deal is almost too good to be true.
I'm not a 914 guy, my knowledge is more into older beetles. For whatever reason lately I've just been jonesing for an old Porsche. I know nothing on what makes one more desirable over another aside from the models. Its the specs and years within the models that still confuse me. From all the searching I've done on this forum on 914's I'm still confused about these.
I'm sure this particular 914 is going to be snatched up before I get my sh!t together and call about it. But I know another will come along. So, apart from the obvious questions I need to ask: Milage on engine, any past restorations, after-market replacements, underbody rust, accidents, etc...
What are some things I would look for being desirable options in this model and year? What original specs and parts would be desirable? Any paint colors rarer than others? Engine parts? _________________ Yet another person with a '66 project: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=526418 |

In '75 there were both 1.8 and 2.0L engines. The 2.0 is more desirable/expensive. There weren't many options - alloy wheels, A/C, luggage rack and radios were about it. That one has aftermarket ATS wheels which are nice. Fuchs were an option. Rust is the big destroyer - a car from AZ/CA is desirable. Rust in longitudinals and around battery box is costly to repair. P.S. all had the removable Targa hardtop and 5 speed transmissions.
Over the years there were special edition and rarer models. Silver and black were extra cost. There were bumble bee editions - black and yellow, ivory and orange and ivory and lime green. They had Mahle painted alloy wheels. Italian Pedrini wheels were another OEM option. _________________ CMC '57 Porsche Speedster Replica and Dolphin boat tailed full pan VW MOD-T Street Buggy |

The best option I can think of for a 914 is being free of rust, thats wery rare and rises the value a lot. I would look at this first before anything else.
Engine parts are generally no problem at all, lots of new and used parts, some EFI parts are rare however.
Nice color on that car!!
