Hello guys,

anyone knows or have a picture how it looks like an early ZAR plate at the backside, a pre49, the early one is flat/smooth or the same as the later ones?

And are the original ones made aluminum? or some other material?

Thanks in advance

Best regards

The earlier one is almost flat.
The ZAR areas are a very little bit raised. But you can better feel it than it is visible. Both are of a metal that can rust. Not aluminium.
At the earlier one the background is black and the ZAR is plated with a shiny surface. But not as bright as chrome.

Thanks again my friend.

I just got informed and checked it once more.
The early one is not magnetic. So no steel involved.
The rust I had seen might have come from the screws wich once held it.

Good opportunity to ask a stupid question Smile - what does ZAR actually stand for and what are these batches all about? I don´t think I can find any information on that.

That was explained before I am sure. But why not once more.
It is short for the german words Zu Auf Reserve
wich means closed open reserve
The badge sits at the fuelswitch lever and tells you in wich position the fuel tap is.

Where is this badge typically located? Can anyone share a picture of it on a vehicle? Thanks.

Interesting image; though I believe that one is upside down; I've never seen the fuel tap 'arm' pointing DOWN Arrow

Here's a photo from my '52 with the Kamei extension and Bambus under dash parcel shelf.

.

If anyone else has contrary examples; please by all means; chime in with other evidence.
I hope this clarifies it for you.
