I don't remember where i found the ball end but easy to find
I used a late split window tow hitch as model but mine is longer than split's. _________________ http://rascal.skynetblogs.be/ |

There was a Barndoor hitch for sale at Ben Pon. I will dig out some photos.
Was keen but was a lot of money.

thats a heavy duty looking tow hitch there. i think i prefer the swan neck westy look instead of the industrial look. _________________ shiny paint doesnt make it worth any more |

If you are looking for a Euro type ball end - they are sold new all day long on German ePay. All types as well from bolt on fish hooks that you see later to that flat plate type that bolts on. They are out there from Euro sources. _________________

You should have way more access in the UK to this stuff. As Geraldcrewcab posted - finding such parts under Anhänger on German ePay will yield pages of results.
This is where Ive found three Westfalia - original 70's hitches for my baywindow stuff. So the old stuff is out there if you look hard enough. _________________

This tow bar came with my barndoor ('54) ~10 years ago. No marks anywhere to indicate where it was made. Anyone know whether or not this is a homemade piece or factory?

To answer Dr Pete:
Your hitch is indeed an original and highly desireable Barndoor only towhitch, made on behalf by VOLKSWAGEN Wolfsburg by the German manufacturer HAHN. It was their ref. 179.1. Your hitch is missing the manufacturer´s tag, so you had no chance to define what it is:
A very rare and HTF piece.
Here two fotos of it during installment, actually I already posted some more on page 1 of this very thread:
... and installed:
... og literature:
...og tag on that hitch:

Awesome tow hitch Pete. I guess the hunt for the ID tag begins now. |

Thanks, Originalo, for the info. Sorry to admit I skimmed over the first page of this thread without carefully looking at your pics. Your bus and trailer rig are outstanding.
I need to restore this bus.....and find a suitable trailer to tow. No small task, either of those!!! _________________ Happy to be alive. Hey Dad, Mom, wish you were here to see all this.
