It's kind of a rubber plastic webbing over a metal frame. It says made in Germany and has the VW logo. What is it worth?

I think they were originally a Kameii piece- then later adopted into the VW offerings in the early 60s. I have one that was purchased new at the dealership with my car in '63. Definately take a peak in the accessory manuals in the 'archives' forums of this site under 'literature'- I may be very wrong!

That one looks damn nice- I think $150 is the median price for one with no cracks. I wish I lived down the street from you. You'd be hearing the doorbell right now.

I'm not super familiar with these but I think it might even be a little bit higher if it's really nice and not yellowed or faded too.

I see one for $225 shipped in an old ad but I don't know what it actually sold for. It looks super nice. $25 of that may have been shipping to protect it well.

Hitest is right, it is an original Kamei parcel shelf. I have one that I had to repair the cracks on. If you look at the center portion of the metal frame, you'll see a hole where a Kamei fuel reserve tap extension can be mounted.

I think around $200 is currently a fair price for one that is intact and complete.

thanks, everyone. It's amazing how things that you've hung onto for years turn that didn't seem so cool at one time, now are. Like the funny shifter I found in my dads old kombi parts bus 20 years ago...who wants a shifter that folds down? Cool, stuff.

Hello Ron. When I took the metal frame off of mine to get powder coated (I'm anal like that). I notice a date stamp. If you or anyone else wants to find yours here's where to look. Look on the bottom of the tray its self in the middle where the metal center support bar would/ does cover. You should see the stamp there. Or at least that where I saw mine stamped.
Let me know if yours is stamped.
Nice tray by the way.

Mine is dated 1964. Not sure if the number 2 means Feb or second edition. Here's a picture of the tray and the date stamp.

I have had a few, and they are always torn somewhere, and yellowed. If that one is that clean, it will fetch a good price.

I checked mine out of curiosity, and could not find a date stamp. Did these start out with no dates, and then start getting dated later?

I've got a feeling my shelf has a 61 stamp. But thats a guess to be honest. Its perfect, i would recommend one, very functional too.
