Have an old set of 14" thing wheels; they look good but how do I know if the wheels need to be trued before sand blasting and painting? |

You could bring it to my house and we could check it on a lathe. Or, simply mount it to your front spindle and spin it. You could use a dial indicator or some kind of pointer mounted to the body or frame. I don't know what allowable run out is?????? I bet Capt. Spalding does. _________________ I may not be that funny or athletic or good looking or smart or talented....I forgot where I was going with this

How do you intend to true the wheels if any are bent? |

I didn't know, but this thread on the Beetle Split Window forum a fellow Samba member quotes the VW spec as 1.5mm. I can't imagine that the spec would be any different for a Thing. A wheel repair shop should be able to true them up for you. Take a drum with you in case they don't have the equipment to mount a wide five wheel. |

Yep, my copy of the '70-79 Bentley says 1.5mm too. Of course, one wonders how many of us are driving around on wheels (or any number of other parts) that are outside of spec. _________________ 1974 Thing -- under the knife
