How deep was this thing sitting in the mud? You could have a lot of rust on the clutch and throttle cables, along with the entire brake system being a corroded mess. |

Once you get it out you should be able to work the pedals free.
Once that is done readjust or install a new spring.

My thing was the same way.. Just replace it, it is easy. Then park so the water pools in the rear (keep your front tires higher that back).. The pan holds the water for years and the pedal just sits in it til it looks like something from the titanic.. |

you might get lucky if you block the transmission clutch arm and try to hook the cable as you manipulate the assembly back in
I use pb blaster for soaking parts. _________________ Michael Basso

|
|
What is this return spring you speak of? My pedal flopped back toward the seat on the floor. Checked the cable and it had come unhooked. Removed the assembly, slacked the cable from the rear, and re hooked it and re mounted the pedal assembly, only to have it flop right back to the floor!!
Any ideas?
Thanks!
This is a 74 thing if that matters. |

There is supposed to be a spring wound around the clutch release arm that keeps tension on the clutch cable. |

There is also a stop plate bolted to the floor. Review the parts manual. Items 18 through 21.

How does that stop plate keep it from flipping toward the seat? It's mounted behind the pedal right? |

Well regardless of HOW it works, I suppose that's my issue. There is a weak patch in the floor right where that stop is mounted and it has become useless. The patch ripped and is lower than it normally should be, letting the clutch pedal slide on by. Looks like welding is my fix! |
