Um the seller claims it is an early release 69 with low back seats.
I am like oh really. Factory Low backs seats in a 69.
As far as I know not on US spec cars.
So did VW ever put low back seat in a 69 type 1?
here is the add I question.

I am not aware of a 69 that came with low backs, but I do not claim to know everything either Wink

The more important question is...who pays 9 grand for a 69 bug!?!?!?

Early 68 bugs may have come with low back seats. I believe the requirement for high backs took effect January 1, 1969.

I agree with all of the above comments.
You also see the horn ring is incorrect, worn pedal covers, cracked steering wheel, incorrect distributor. Honestly would have to see the vehicle live in color. Professional rebuilt engine, does that mean the thermostat and flaps are there, 69's were single ports. Rack appears to have some patina.
I just don't get the low backs.

The ad says "original seats". He could have cut the high backs down and recovered them and they would then still be "original"

My parents owned an August '67-assembled '68 convertible in 1969-70 and it had the high back seats, as well as all the other new-for-'68 stuff..

In Australia, and other countries too, we had low back seats up to and including the 1970 model year.

The headliner and fuel gauge bug me, but it looks like a decent restoration.

I never saw low back seats on a 1968 or later.

Ya' even sure that's an original color re-paint? http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/colorstype2.php

It looks nice, not cheap, but to call it restored not entirely correct as Quite a few non-1969 parts as others have noted above.

I'd be more concerned about who did that "professional rebuild." For some reason I look at the rest of the car and "GEX" pops into my head.

He's sure proud of the fact that his lights and blinkers work though.

Follow up. Saw the vehicle yesterday. OMG in my opinion it is over priced.
Engine was new, did not have t-stat or flaps. Seats appeared to be chopped down. A few other issues as well.

I would bet that we've all, at least most of us have paid more for something than its true value reflects. That's a pretty nice looking car and if I were looking for that particular model in the condition it appears to be in I don't think it has an outrageous price. It may depend on where you live and how far you may have to drive to find one.

The potential issue with the seats being correct may be another story.
