Looks nice, but can ya do it with heat? |
I think that it can be done with heating. In this layout there would be just about room for a heat exchanger over the #2 and #4 primary tubing. I think we will try this when we have test fitted the thing. |

yes, to be correct in the US it is "exhaust tube", and measured on the OD.
Trying to get a good recording of the sound I have come to realize it is actually not as loud as I thought....... the cooling fan and carbs probably are just as loud. Wasn't that quiet last year.
It's amazing how much differently mufflers and pipes work when they get some age and carbon in them! |

If you have carbon buildup in the exhaust, you're driving it wrong!

Is there enough room to add a pair of small resonators or glasspacks before the final merge? I would really like to make something like this but also want a very quiet exhaust. |

no, but it's no problem.
I could make it very quiet if desired. Plenty of room in that muffler for glass, and there is enough space the muffler could be upped in size 50%
No point for me tho, carbs are already louder than tailpipe |

Looks very nice, closer to tecent's design than mine.
The fact it is quiet is....probably a good sign. You'll never know if it is perfect unless you try every combination of this and that..... which...you may or may not want to do.
We are off the beaten path now!
I bet at the very least it will help it run strong and cool in the mid RPMS, and if it isn't too loud..... then it's better than the majority of em
Give it a week or two, I swear they always run different after it has some miles on it!! Tell me if you notice |

Yes it's been awhile. I should update.
Since pic.......... shortened the primaries to be approx 13" long. Lost mid range bad, top end improved.
Changed final collector to be 2 1/8 OD, and gained response and some of midrange back.
Probably better overall now. But secondaries being 1/2 length of primaries is good too. Considering stepped primaries as another possibility, but no idea if it will be better/worse
Today I talked to my buddy who is a welder/fab guy about making these, he first brought up making it one piece with minimum welds.
That's fine it reminds me average joe thinks the appearance affects performance. Average joe is a moron. Maybe I will make another someday, but not soon.
BTW ralf, I changed the oil and spark plugs and filter today. The limit for VR1 oil is 5000 miles. i waited too long and the carbon in the oil was starting to seperate out |

is that a mini sump or a flipped oil strainer to filter the drips? _________________ Wash your hands

Here's a good place for bends and collectors and such...
http://www.mandrel-bends.com/catalog/
They have a pretty good selection in the smaller size tubing.

#2 primary rusted through today.
I'll have to patch it tonight with used crappy tubing, don't have any good stuff on hand.
I need 14 gauge aluminumized U and J bends in 1.5" and 1 3/8.....where to get them? |
