Not just a car guy, but a REAL racer kind of car guy! He was not only interested, he had real driving talent! |
sorry meant it in a more global, r/t racing. Yep, one heck of a driver - Paul Newman & James Garner were the first 2 celebs I really remember driving competitively (EDIT: I failed to mention Steve McQueen, but I actually don't remember reading much in the 70s about him due to his fight with cancer). Garner did his own driving stunts in the Rockford Files.

Lionel Ferbos, who had played trumpet in New Orleans since the early 1930s and was believed to be the oldest working musician in the city known as the birthplace of jazz, died July 19 at his home in the Crescent City. He had celebrated his 103rd birthday on Thursday.

I remember the first time I saw "Grand Prix" as a kid. I was blown away. I've been a Garner fan my whole life. Sad news indeed. _________________

Just to set the record straight, Karl and his brother Theo founded Aldi together, but they split the company into Aldi North and Aldi South in the 60's (the brothers got into a fight over whether or not to sell cigarettes in the stores), and Karl's brother Theo (Aldi North) was the one who owned Trader Joe's. Karl owned the Aldi stores here in the USA.
When Theo died he was so secretive that even the big German newspapers couldn't find a photo for the obituary that wasn't 30 years old. (Karl was the one who was anti-cigarette, and he wound up richer than Theo.) |

This is not for a "celebrity," but for a very courageous hero. Jon Cavaiani, awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroics in Vietnam, dead at 70. My heartfelt thanks to him and to all the people serving our country and especially to those who have made the ultimate sacrifices. God bless you all. |
