anyone have any idea what the value of a original 1973 red jim beam vw beetle decanter is still in the original bag with the owners manual and the stopper/pour spout never been used......tape over the cap is still intact and the overall condition is great.....do believe even the rubber band on the end of the bag is original!!!!!! _________________ never enough hours in the day!!!! |

Is the whiskey still in it?
It's amazing that you found one in this condition, however a large number of these decanters have survived because they were a decorative item and not a toy subject to being played with. They turn up fairly often in antique stores. Even in the condition you described, you'll be hard pressed to realize much more than $75 for it.
Note to all: Never pick one of these decanters up by the roof, because the glue holding the roof to the body becomes brittle with age, and the heavy ceramic bottom half can separate. (Don't ask me how I know.) _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

I haven't looked at it in many, many years, but down in my basement with all my stashed VW toys, etc., I have a mint blue one that my parents bought for me when I turned 21 (I'm 60 now) that is still in it's formed protective Styrofoam, full of whiskey, paper liquor seal still intact. I love VWs but not Bourbon. Yeah, I was also curious what their value might be...

Someone who must have one in mint condition to match his car might pay $100, but I think that's probably wishful thinking.
And yes, they only came in two colors, the red (actually I see a little more orange), and blue. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.

Here's a blue one just listed in The Samba classifieds. (And no, I don't know the seller.)
