Wondering if anyone out there have put there bug with a five inch or narrower front beam on a u haul car trailer. There trailers have a gap in the middle and I'm not sure if the front wheels will clear it. My bug is in California so I can't measure the gap in my front tires. I currently have a five inch beam ,145 Nankangs on the front with the empi BRM and drum brakes. Its also slammed to the ground which will be a whole new adventure trying to get it on the trailer itself lol. Thanks. _________________ Semper Fidelis |

i have a 61 with a 4" narrowed beam and rented a Uhaul trailer not to long ago. DO NOT try to load it. Mine just bearly fit onto the trailer. I too have 145s up front and it just squeaked it on. I was terrified every time I had to load and unload it, besides, the Uhaul trailers are a bit of overkill for a bug. I pulled it with my 05 Nissan Pathfinder and the trailer is just to heavy. If you have a big full size truck you may be ok. Just my 2 cents worth. |

I have a full size Chevy Silverado ill be pulling it with. I think budget has one without the gap and lips like u haul. Ill check them out too. Worse case scenerio i can barrow my friends Peterbilt and 53' step deck and haul it that way too low. _________________ Semper Fidelis |

You could maybe get a stock pair of smoothies (just rollers) and turn the wheels around inside-out. Sorta like the offroaders used to do.
Just to get it on a trailer for a ride. What the heck.
It'll move the tire centerline outward and perhaps give you clearance.
Rock on. |

Well my bug did fit on the u haul trailer. Took a little bit. Beam wasn't really the issue, the car being so low was. lol. boards took care of that and jacking the trailer up. _________________ Semper Fidelis |

The U-Haul car trailer I used recently had ramps that were just barely wide enough for my stock '66 Beetle. |
Same with the trailer I got from Penske - less than an inch of room on one side with the other tire pressing on opposite side. |

Yep - When my father towed our '65 to my wedding (stock suspension) on a U-Haul trailer, it was the width between the ramps that made it tricky, not the width of the tracks on the trailer. I'll see if I can find a picture, but the minimum width between the ramps is several inches wider than the minimum width of the tracks on the trailer itself.
//edit: Picture below. Note that you can angle the ramps inward a touch, but it doesn't help you at the point where the ramps meet the trailer.
