When the trans in my stock 70 bug went south, the only IRS replacement I had immediately available was a new Rancho Pro Street that had been sitting comfortably in my den for a couple of years.

I had it installed along with new OEM mounts but used the same clutch.
The trans shifts just fine, but seems a lot noisier than the stocker that it replaced. This is especially true at about 3,000 rpm regardless of what gear I'm in. Not noisy like there's something wrong .... just ... louder.

Would a Pro Street trans have ingredients that would would just naturally raise the sound level?

Assuming you didn't forget the gear lube, my guess would be it just needs to break-in. Has it even had its first oil change after break-in yet? If it's still noisy after the first oil change and about 500 miles, then I might start to become concerned.

Okay ... guess I'll let it break in for a while. It only has about 200 miles on it right now.
Thanks for the info

I was able to talk to one of the techs at Rancho Transmissions just a bit ago. He told me that the Pro Street will, in fact, be noisier than stock because the Pro is set up with "closer tolerances".

So: more noise, but also stronger.
