|
|
Hello.
Thought id pick yer brains a little.
What kinda comparisom would a vw vs a v8 car be? If you have a bare bones volksrod with a 150-175 horse bug engine in it vs a (lets say) camaro or mustang with a 350-400 horse v8 in it?
If both cars were tuned good and both with reg street tires would it be a good race?
Just to much time on my hands I guess...tnx..vr |

2015 Mustang
weight close to 4000 lb
Your figure of 400 HP
10:1 weight:HP ratio
1970 VW Bug
weight close to 2000 lb w/driver
Your figure of 175 HP
11.4:1 weight:HP ratio
You'd need about 200HP to level the playing field. But gearing and low end torque can change things, too.
This is just numbers... |

A bare bones Volksrod with 175 HP would have no problem beating any new showroom stock Mustang, Camaro, or Dodge Hemi in the 1/4 mile as long as tire traction is not a problem. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

So are you building a race car, or a Volksrod?
When you say Volksrod all kinds of possibilities pop up that can drop a turd in your bowl.
A 150-175hp engine, that is well set up with correct gearing and correct tires for the gearing, then no problem maybe not losing to Cuda/Mustang
But a Volksrod with 150hp, freeway flier transaxle, and 31” dia. tires, I think would be too slow off the line to even compare to a Mustang
Also remember a Volkrod has the same co-efficient of drag that a brick does, at least compared to a modern car. _________________ Good Luck

I'm in the 13s in my Beetle
Other racers in Holden Commodore V8s (aka Pontiac GTO, G8 or Chevy SS sedans - with all-alloy GM V8s) come over, grinning, and want to chat about it |

This is like asking if you marry the skinny 18 year old what’s the chances she will weigh over 300 pounds before she’s 30.
A race car is a machine made up of thousands of pieces. Pour enough money into it and pay close enough attention to details and you can make it go fast. But for every car you beat, there will be several waiting to beat you. _________________ Mother Nature is a Mean Evil Bitch! |

Full steel body including huge OE bumpers. Decent engine and gears....
V8s... no problem.
It's all in the combo... and a wallet to pay for it. _________________ Glenn

the 2021 stroker in my square put a few stangs and camaros behind it along with some of the local ricers that were under the impression they were fast(but weren't). this is all with me lightly toying with them and not reving beyond 6k on the newly built stroker that all this went on in the first 700-800 miles before i wrecked the square. i also had half a dozen people chase me down to parking lots trying to find out what was in it as it "sounds crazy" hahaha. 2 guys that were playing in a souped up mini and a wrx stopped running each other and did a 180 into my work parking lot to try to find out what was in it.
we hadn't gotten it to the dyno before the wreck but estimates bounced between 120-150hp. _________________ ITMC

That is mine. I run an 1850cc (76x88) in it. It ran 15.15 1/4 (9.51 1/8 ) Stock heads with slight port and polish and dual 36 mm Dell's. Somewhere around 100-120 HP. I Drive it everywhere. That was on Daytona beach, 1500 miles there and back.

76mm cb crank
92mm thickwall AA pistons/cylinders
worked over brothers vw 40x35.5 heads w/ dual springs
brothers 1.25:1 rocker which actually measured out to 1.34:1
web 163 cam w cb straightcut gears
manton pushrods
revmaster I beam rods
berg full flow oil system
dual dellorto 40 drla's
bosch 019 distributor(going 010 when it;s back on the road)
i forget if it's 9.1:1 or 9.3:1 compression but will tell you it does like anything but premium hahaha
by the time it was said and done i spent about 25% over my budget but that first ride was worth it. i've had several 1641, 1776,1835 and none hold a candle. _________________ ITMC

I like that! What are the wheels?
And: what year and country is the spec - flat screen and big bumpers is not something I've seen before...? |

the basics are:
1916cc
Counterweight crank
CB 044 heads, CNC-ported
Twin plugs per cylinder
Webers
It's specced/tuned for track work so it not 100 percent at its best on a drag strip, but it's good fun:
