A bit of bling in the form of carbon fiber racing mirrors, they are Spa G.T/LeMans from england. I found them at a local racing shop used off a race car. They are small but have a convex mirror and in the location I mounted them they are as good or better than the elephant mirrors they replaced,
my old mirrors are going on a friends bus.
I have been searching since the build started for some talbot green dots, but have not found any decent ones for under $400, these mirrors are not vintage racing style but I like the simple rounded box shape, kinda like a bus!

Looking SHARP! Not vintage style, but your ride is unique and far from vintage performance, especially when white-knuckling it in the passenger's seat!

Plus, your DC is looking so shiny in those pics! Fresh wash and wax?! Not the usual daily driver grunge coating that we are used to seeing around town. Don't be embarrassed, even a hippy chick gets her gussy-up and once in a while for the right occasion. Shocked

Don't worry, you are still getting my old mirrors.

The d.c had a rare wash (but no wax, it is a work truck after all) to take it to the Kelly Park show. I parked in the swap meet section to purge a few spare parts, only a few people looked close enough to notice that the truck was far from stock, showed it to some people who are following the build here.
After checking out the show cars I think it will remain outside that build finish level for a long time, those cars are gussied-up big time!

I took the d.c. in for a corner balance at the race shop at Sears Point where I found the mirrors. I had always planned to get the d.c. properly weighed to find the baseline and see if anything was too far out of whack.
Also start the corner balance/alignment process.
When first put on the scales without driver weight things looked pretty good-cross weights were great and close to 50/50 front to rear balance.

A little heavy at almost 3000# and I still need the front cage.

Then we added me in the form of old racing brake discs, could probably omit two of them if I cut cheese from my burritos.

This is how I finished up- decent cross weights and about a 54% front weight bias.

We also roughed out the front camber, getting a max of 1.1 deg.neg.

I spent a few evenings making a steering wheel using a MWS hub from CIP1.
It is slightly smaller at 17" (once I get it covered, maybe alcantara or whatever it is called).
It is much thicker as the stock wheel is too skinny for my hands.
The hub needed a bit of work to fit and the cancel ring is off by 20 deg. or so but seemed simpler to start with it than have one machined by scratch.

The claw hammer was used to center punch the holes to guide the hole saw.
This project reminded me of my disdain for the wobbly, grabby, wrist snapping evil that is disguised as a hole saw, (and I used the good ones!)

The DC is a strong runner. Or should I say, "screaming demon fom Hell?!"
She did an hour and a half run to the BugORama in the time that it should have taken a normal bus 2 hours plus and then some! Plus, it was hot as all can be and the temp gauges stayed right in the money zone, despite "Mario's" attempts to push and grind to make time!

The wheel looks great in person and really seams to fit those lobster mitts that you call hands, and looks good in the DC too! You are right that those tiny mirrors do give great visibility despite their small size, because of the convex.
Your Frankenstein project has really proven to be a viable option, though I am sure you have had plenty confidence in the build and design the whole time. She is a real show stopper!

Thanks TommyTotembus, the road was clear and the fuzz were at the coffee shop, so lost time was re-captured after a slow start.
The D.C got in late, slid into a open slot in a sold out show, then left early. Typical.
The truck ran 90+90deg.=180deg oil temp, thanks to the big cooler on the nose, which I did a bit more work on before the show.

Still more to do to refine but it may stay a bit abrupt visually.
If I scrap it for a fan assisted belly cooler it will help my front weight bias but might hurt high speed cooling. I have only had oil temp go above 200 if I leave it idling for long periods on hot days, exactly when a fan cooler would shine.

I like the look of your wheel, very graceful.
I still need to cover mine with leather so it will look more plump in comparison, but my hands are large and my actions frantic.
I am too thinking about making a custom horn button, I like the Porsche cap, turn it down to fit. Sweet.

I was hoping to have some video to post of the event but the gopro shot by a friend did not turn out.
The D.C. stood up well to my second gear 6500 r.p.m. 60 m.p.h. tire smoking runs, the course layout was very fast (for autox) and was alot of fun.
I still had some understeer issues but had some throttle oversteer on the faster sections, much more entertaining but still not "fast" time wise.
Still need some more tuning to balance the chassis but getting closer.
Had some high falut'in company, Ferrari, Audi R8, Porsche and so on.

The tuning changes I made prior to this event - upped rear coilovers from #550 to #650 for a effective rear spring rate of ~#320
Took out some rear camber to ~1.8 deg. and maxed front to ~1.1 deg. (would like to get much more front camber but that is it, until I go to a A-arm front suspension).
Rear tires were shot after one year due to too much rear camber, toe out on one tire and crappy traction control (Converse All Stars) Twisted Evil

I am meeting with Seth this week to discuss A-arm front end that was always part of the plan as at this point the existing front suspension is maxed out.

It is so cool to see your DubCab in the mix. You had to be putting smiles on people's faces for sure. Hell, they should pay you an appearance fee! I also like that Datsun 2000 (or was it a 1600?) in the background. Old school rides in da haus baby!

I think the Datsun is a 2000, there was also a 240Z with a six and one with a small block v8 that just lays a cloud of smoke over the course!
Also a newer 370Z that despite its portly weight rips up the track.

The D.C. is like a clown car next to the rest of the pack, a angry, angry clown car. Twisted Evil
Most people seem happy to see a old hippy bus tearing around the course and plenty of thumbs up and so on.
On the road some folk also appear a bit confused and even irritated when I flash them to get out of the fast lane but I suppose that is understandable. Razz

Nice ride!

Are you planning on fabbing your own A arms or are you doing something like red9/mandola (sorry, sp!! it's late!).

I don't even know how you are managing to keep track of that torsion bar front end, adjusters, coilovers(!!), mid engine, sway bars, and what is the suspension in the back?? Smile But good on ya for taking it out autocrossing.

(I have enough problems just figuring out suspension stuff on 'normal' autox cars. I was running a MR2 Spyder right now, mid engine RWD is fun!!)
