|
|
I have a single port 1600 with the 30pict 1 carb and 205AN DVDA distributor. The car runs good after to get it rolling . But on take off falls flat on its face. I have read and realize that I need a SVSA distributor. Like a 205K or L. Is there any other options?
Or does anyone have another suggestion. I don't want to spend a lot as I'm hoping.to upgrade to a dual port. |

Plenty of 205k, l, M or Ts in the classifieds for cheap money.
A 009, 019, or a 010 mechanical advance would also work easily. |

I have a 205K and a 205T distributor. Both work great on a solex PICT30-1 with a power circuit. I'll assume your carb also has it? If you're not sure, post a picture of the base of the carb. There should be some numbers stamped on it like 75-1 for an example.
Just a suggestion, try and buy a good, used REBUILT distributor from TASB or other know good distributor rebuilders. The reason I suggest this is most of these distributors are very old now and need to come apart for a good cleaning/inspection. Most used ones have never been apart. The vacuum cans also need to be solid and not have any tears in the membrane inside. Those guys that rebuild them know their stuff and insure all the parts are good before shipping to you. There prices for these distributors are good as well.
There are some parts inside of these distributors that are not easy to come by. Example, the fiber washers are almost ALWAYS broken. You can get them in kits but the kit only includes one and most of the time you need two. The kits are $35 dollars each.
I just bought a used 205T distributor for $45 bucks. The seller said its "in great shape". Um, yea, no, no it isn't. It has a ton of up/down play on the shaft and I'm sure the reason why is the fiber washers are broken and have fallen to the bottom. I just got some new fiber washers and am going to go thru and refresh it before using it. _________________ Contact me at

A few guys around me dislike the 009. I have an electronic distributor. No vacuum advance or markings on it.
Should I try this ? I just don't want the same.stumbling issue I currently have |

That would be a 009 with a points replacement module in it. No improvement over a 009 IMO.
Find a stock vacuum unit (or a 019) and you will be happier in the long run. |

The 113 905 205 K, M, T cores will be fairly easy to find. They are typically overpriced here on the Samba. You won't find a 113 905 205 L out there. These are Garbe-Lahmeyer distributors and the part number is triangular sticker that has worn off over the years. Her's a pic of a "J" for reference.

Mechanical advance distributors do not need to be mated to the correct carburetor so yes the Mallory can be tuned. _________________ Roads Scholar &

Your current carb DOES NOT have the power fuel circuit on it like the base number VW 105-1 (1967 carb) does. I have the original 30-1 carb with the base 105-1 base and power circuit. Like Andy, I think it's the best carb VW/Solex installed on their carb'd bugs.
You can find that carb used in the Samba classifieds. Most will need to have the throttle bushing replaced. You could also contact http://volkzbitz.com/Prices.php
He's got a GREAT reputation on this site for doing great work on these carbs. _________________ Contact me at

Your best bet would be to PM Andy and ask him. He's the expert on those Solex carbs. _________________ Contact me at
