I have posted a couple pics of this car already, I actually asked about it before I bought it... Figured it was time to start a build thread more for me than anything else. Here it goes... What I started with,

I want to keep it original-ish, as far as budget allows and add a little bit of my personality to it. I plan to keep it long-term (want be buried in it long term). Interior something like this

Engine is a 2332cc with a Porsche type fan shroud. I don't really know much about the specifics on the car. I bought it from the Dad of the previous owner, who had passed away after 5 years in prison. I figured that it was reasonably straight and that at $1,500 it was worth the gamble that the engine was junk, worst case scenario I would part out the motor for $1,500-$2,000 and use the money to get a replacement. Looks like I won't have to do that though. What do you guys think 150-200 HP?

Can any of you tell how this was lowered in the front from these pictures? I don't think I have an adjustable beam...

I mean to say that it sits much lower than stock (I think) but I don't see any adjusters on the beam, so it would have to be dropped spindles correct? The trailing arms do have an upward angle on them is there a way to do this by rotating the torsion leaves or something?

Safety notice ;
Maby you already know
Those leaves that are stuck to the spider webs tell me that this car has been stored where there are black widow spiders ; be careful ;especially if you have small children....
Just Grandpa trying to keep you safe Wink

Am I crazy or did the PO just pull out a couple of the torsion leaves to make the front suspension drop a bunch?

Ok now I have a real pickle for everyone... got the chassis number while working on it yesterday 5887523 (from under the rear seat) so it looks like it was produced in late 1963 (October) meaning it is a 1964 model year? But I though ragtops where only made through the 63 model year? any thoughts?

Three possibilities: somebody grafted on a ragtop from an earlier car, the body is earlier and transplanted onto a '64 pan, or it's a european standard (still available with the rag sunroof through '67 if I recall correctly).

The 1963 model year was the last year for ragtops on deluxe models. Ragtops continued until the 67 model year on standards. With all the modifications to your car, the ragtop could very likely be grafted. Check for any signs of welds on the interior of the roof. If none are visible there, they could have cut at the pillars.

I think it still has the original perf. headliner, so a graft is probably not likely.

So this is a 1964 Euro standard ragtop? Any databases out there that can pull the M-code from the chassis number?

Does the body still have its VIN plate in the spare wheel well? If so, does the number match the pan?

I think it does, I will have to check it tomorrow. Are other aspects of the body consistent with a 64' euro standard? Like the fenders and decklid? They seem to have the same original paint, looks like ruby red shows through in a couple places. I was going to keep other parts of this car original-ish (correct handles etc) but if the body/chassis don't even match why bother?
