Is one of these a better one to start with? I believe the one on the left is from a 71 auto vert and the one on the left from a 69 manual coupe. The wiring on the 71 has more wires and seems to be in slightly better shape. Any opinions?

You can put that lock column from the '69 onto the steering shaft and tube from that 71. I like the longer lock column myself, and how the lock cylinder sits flush with the column. _________________ -Jared

The only turn signal switches available for 71s anymore are complete junk. I'd use the one from the 69. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

I had to make one switch out of two. The 71 one had a bunch of burnt and spliced wires in the column. The 69 had broken plastic pieces, so I stole the plastic pieces and spring from the 71 and put them in the 69. I kept the 71 column switch and key because the wires were much better and the key was a vw one.
I hope it works.
