On my September 1957 car, the bulkhead/firewall mat had been glued in its place, and the sides tucked behind retaining channels. _________________ David Ruby

This is the only fixing I found on my Lowlight...two long retaining strips, one each side next to the door windlace. They are "U" shaped, screwed to the sidewall and the baulkhead rubber mat slips into the clip and is crimped into place. |
The person that sent me the mat that I am currently working with included a pair of those. The units he sent are steel and have a stong strip of cloth - backed vinyl - the vinyl covers the metal - yet the pictures that John posted are obviously different. I have been mentally debating whether or not to include those. I am only going to make black bulkheads to start. If anyone wants a different color, SEM will send them a color chart of their aerosol and they have colors that are very close to original. I wrote last night that VW offered three colors, but I think I was incorrect - I think they offered more then three colors for their bulkhead mats. |

I have great news. I am now ready to start making the mold for the bulkhead mat – and of course, the mat itself. I have figured out all of the issues and solved them. This mold will be expensive to make, and the first mats will be in black – and perhaps grey. I will need to recoup the costs of making this mold – in fact, I do not have all of the funds needed to make the mold – and this will take some time.
I will have to sell the mat for at least $800. But to make the mold, I am offering a one-time sale of $400 – this will enable me to make the mold. I am very excited about this. This mat is totally unavailable and this will be the first time that any reproduction will be available. My mat will be made from an original – so it will have ALL of the details of the original. I will sell the first 20 buyers the bulkhead mat at half the price- $400. This is an excellent buy, and an opportunity to keep our Ghias stock, for shows or personal use. Please contact me at [email protected] if you are interested.
Thank you, John.
