What did VW specify as the maximum hill climbing ability in first gear for a '68 411? If anybody has a manual and could look that up, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

And...the three door sedan they are speaking of is actually the wagon/variant. Early on the wagons had slightly lower final drive ratio in the four speed (3.91:1 compared to 3.79:1) but in th e last year and a half I think they were all 3.91:1.

The automatics were 3.67:1 early on with twin carbs...and changing to 3.91:1 from August 1970 on.....and 3.91:1 for fuel injection across the board.....supposedly.

A chunk of the difference between sedan and wagon other than gear ratio....was weight.

2 door curb weight: 2248 lbs
4 door curb weight: 2292 lbs
Wagon curb weight: 2590 lbs
