|
|
Hey Guys,
Just got a set of cip1 robri fender guards in, nice quality guards. But when I place the rear ones up on the fenders it seems like they do not fit right. They are molded pretty much into shape so naturally I placed it against the outside of the fender where it hooks around. But then there is a big space between the body of the car to the guard. I was always used to using the empi style tall guards and they mounted right up to the fender bead.
Anyone have any suggestions? Cip1 says that it is normal to have that gap.
Please let me know,

Yes the gap is normal!!! I agree it look's like sh-t they dont fit right. My friend which is very creative heated them with a torch and slowly bent and pulled them to shape!! And many hours of work and repolishing and now they fit perfectly! But its a crazy thing to do when their new but they came out perfect |

Normal for the repros.......Original Robri's fit original fenders with very little gap. LESS than a 1/4 inch against the fender beading. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." Dobee, Dobee, Do |

ah geez... Guess I will have to put some heat on em and do the best I can. Crazy, I personally do not like the gap, the empis sit flush and only 30 bucks or so.

Yeah I think I am just gonna place them on and bolt them. It looks to be about a half inch or so away from the bead.
I hear it is normal.
Does anyone have any pics out there? _________________ My restos www.classicvwbugs.com

Are these the ones you got from CIP1? Just curious since they claim that they come from the original tooling.

Original tooling from the repros.........
The trouble with these, as I understand it, is that as a second generation repro; they are too small by about 10%. They won't fit the repro fenders any better than they fit the originals. You will need to really work the rear ones just to get the curve to fit correctly and there will be a significant gap is spite of your efforts. You're not going to get a good fit regardless, if you don't have enough material to begin with. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away."
