|
|
Installed my new 3x3 arms from Latest rage. Are they installed correctly. I have looked for pics of other installs and I have seen them installed both ways.
Should I take the arms back off and notch the inner spring plate 1/4 inch? I have already indexed the plates 1 tooth down. I have Fox 14" travel shocks and want to get as much travel as I can. _________________ 74 bus

wait to notch until mock up your trans. axles and CV's. using a protractor notch the spring plates and arms to about 2-3 degrees less than your CV's can handle. that will change with the size of CV and how much "raceprep" is done to the CV's. That's how you maximize the travel witch is limited by your CV's and your budget.
ps. don't forget to install spring plate retainers. |

will do. I am using a 002 with 930 cv's (most likely empi) unless there is another brand that i should look at.

Are you talking about the 4th bolt hole?
That stock arms are tapped. Should I do the same in that arm or just drill the a hole out?
Do you think the arms are installed the correct way? _________________ 74 bus

In my opinion they're upside down only because I see the characteristic "corner" on that bottom edge just before it passes behind the gusset that denotes where the space for mounting shocks is meant to be. I'd imagine the completely flat side would be better on bottom not to mention the pointed surface on the springplate mount ought to be pointing down as well.
You should notice when the wheels are mounted because the camber will look wrong. _________________ Brian H.

That is kinda what I thought too. When they are swapped side to side I thought the camber looked off as well. I will swap them again to double check. Thanks for the answer. I'll take some before and after pics and post them to compare the two. _________________ 74 bus

I been using the IRS suspension for sand and offroading including off road racing and have never used a spring plate retainer ever.
The retainer were made for the swingaxle suspension.
Since you are planning on using other than stock suspension pieces, you may want to look at using limit straps as the stock lower spring plate stop usually get modified for more travel.
Mine are completely cut off and I am using limit straps as the lower stop. Spring plate travels almost down to lower rear cover bolt. _________________ Joseph

Ok next question. I was looking through your build (KrAzY-BaJa) and I noticed that your stock shock/bump mount was completely cut off. Should I do the same. I am planning on Xing the main hoop which is 6-8" forward of that mounting point that is on my stock shock/stop and I have will frame horn supports. Will this be enough support for the frame or should i add some more support from the torsion housing to the location where the frame goes down to the stock shock/bump mount. _________________ 74 bus
