Not sure what the problem was- everything seemed ok - but it kept blowing fuses...so, I replaced the socket, the fuse, the power wire and the charger- seems to work OK now _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia |

More work done
Installed decklid spring and driver's side door chrome trim- thanks to Matt in Lake Stevens for the parts.
Waiting for a few more parts to arrive: Glove box door trim- radio mounting nuts- grab handle
Looking forward to the Vintage Meet in Seattle this weekend _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia |

Just kidding-
Finally got the mounting nuts to install the radio
The radio rides a fraction too high because of the way the opening was repaired--I can live with it like that... Still waiting for the correct outer volume/tuner knobs- they are not easy to find and cost more than I paid for the radio!!!
Also like the look of the bug without the cheesy "Made in Taiwan" plastic chrome trim rings:

Bummer- tested the radio with a 6V battery- nothing - I made sure everything was hooked up right- battery, ground, speaker, antenna- no static no nothing. Any ideas?
I'm thinking I could run an iPod off an amp and the speaker- how would that work? _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia |

Fun project of the day- wanted a vintage looking grill decoration logo for my chrome speaker. Found an old Motorola logo online- printed it and traced it onto aluminum sheet. Cut it out carefully with a jeweler's saw and mounted it on the chrome bars of the speaker

In a few days I am having a new windshield installed- the old one is cloudy and chipped. I could see some rust bubbling under the edge of the bottom. I thought I could get away with just some localized repairs but I ended up removing the old windshield to get a better look at the lower lip.
Lots of scaly surface rust and one small hole was revealed. I made a cardboard windshield to block overspray and after grinding away the old scale and rust I treated it with rust reformer.
I'll give it some time to dry and then top-coat it. Then it will be ready for new glass!!

16 amp fuses are correct for the brake lights, flasher relay, horn, and wipers. Use 8 amp fuses for all other electrical equipment.
You can reference here for what each fuse is for.

Do your Beetle a favor and weld the primer drain holes in the windshield frame closed. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Yes, Ive seen that page out of some dealership from ??? somewhere. OAC?
Its not VW of Germany, and probably just someone elses "best guess" about the primer drain holes in the bottoms of the window channels.
Just take a look at the OAC Project's "about" page;

From the front of the "Damage Numbers" manual:
