Very nice work, thanks for posting the pics. Inspiring. In the pic above, what is that L shaped piece for? Am I correct in guessing that it is just a fabbed brace to hold the contour of the panel/curve? It is pinned with the copper bar for welding, then removed?

Also, what do you do on the backside of that long buttweld? Do you stitch back there too after the front is done?

Really nice work, an all metal repair/buttweld there is the way to go.

Thank you John

You are correct on several counts. The fabd piece was also trimed to friction fit against the inner quater panel. Basically trapping the skins for moving. This pic is of it on the bench ready to use or store away for the next one.

You have a wonderful eye, and In fact I looked closely on the backside for voids in the but weld, and will be putting a tack or two back thr as needed . Smile However my goal is to find that perfect gap to fill that doesn't leave any voids or cause the two opposing pieces to resist angainst each other, during the stitch process, causing a peek in the panel!
You can see in the other pix that I almost closed the gap leaving only thousandths at best. I was pleased with the result, as you know it didn't stop there. Haha. Next was Grinding, Vixon file , Hammer, Dollie, large spoon and small slapper. Thanx so much for the feedback and questions. I'm enjoying this forum a lot . Good Stuff Cool

There is a wide range a results that can or will have to be made on the Body, but they are all very circumstantial. Smile

Are you talking about a specific Area or Specific Part?

I go out of my way to recreate Factory applications on every area of the metal reconstruction. I mimic Spot welds and Stick welds alike.

For example, this body mount will Spot Welded back onto the Wheel House and take on the factory "Look" for sure. Once the tips are dressed to create the shape of a factory Spot Weld and the OG pattern is followed, You cant help but create that "Look".

You will see later on in this build where I am able to use the Spot welder for that result in many occasions, like the Fire Wall Trays, Bumper Brackets, weather Strip Retainers, Front and Rear Aprons, and more.

My Ultimate Goal is to do all Reconstruction as close to OG as I can, across the Board. Ending up with what I hope is a Product that will Perform and Look (or even be) just like Stock.

Another Example of that is just recently I Special Ordered The longest Air Cooled Spot Weld Tong available so that I can Spot weld an entire Long Panel on a Spit Bus. I even went out of my way to copy the Factory pattern onto the new panel. making every effort to get the result they did and have it be, or "Look" like factory. Very Happy

Beautiful work sir!
Where did you get the plate holding the panel together? I could use those for my project.

Wow!

What's it cost to have that much work done? I figured it would never be economical to do all the rust repair on my own September '52 11C
