I just want a mild lift and was wondering how much to rotate the center I do not want to over do it. I was thinking 1/2" |

I built a beam for a Baja a few years ago - I cut 'n' turned the bottom beam only by 15mm IIRC and it lifted the vehicle by around 50mm/2-inches. That was perfect with the long-travel KYB dampers... |

I rotated mine 3/8 or so, and that seems to be about max for a stock ball joint front end.

What kind of suspension do you have, what kind of vehicle is it going on, and how do you plan to drive it?
All of these factors play into each other. It is hard to answer your question without knowing what your application is. _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

Van is right. Our recommendations are totally meaningless without some indication of what the vehicle is and what the intended use is. We don't even know if you're talking about link pin or ball joint here.
Description of use and pics are required or I can't help (and won't try either). _________________ Richard

Sorry for the lack of info.
BJ beam, 75% road 25% trail. Will adjust rear to the front looking to give it more off a off road stance the the couple of stock street Baja's around here. I don't want to over stress the ball joints. Raised spindles are not in the budget. |

Given the way trailing link suspension travels in a consistent arc through its travel. If you take the length of the trailing arm from the center of the ball joint to the center of each beam, any changes at the beam will be multiplied by the length of the arm. Even 1/8 of an inch of turn equals out to over an inch of lift. So it's very easy to accidentally go a little too far or not enough to achieve the exact amount of lift you want for your application. Which is why adjusters are so valuable. If you're going through the process of completely disassembling the front end to cut and turn, you may consider spending the few dollars and weld in adjusters to give yourself a little bit of adjustment once everything is back together. Some say the adjusters are not as durable, but you said 75% on road so I'm guessing you're not crazy hard on your suspension. Another option would be to cut and turn and just tack weld. Put it all back together to see where you're at, then if everything is titties, take it back apart and weld it up. Your fabrication skills may be better than my cobbling skills. It can be done perfectly the first time with careful measuring and math. Just my two cents. _________________ Saturn engine swap

I'm more of a link pin kind of guy, but I would suggest a 1/4 inch cut and rotate for what you are doing. That will give you a bit of lift without being a complete brick on the street. Any more than that and I think you will be dissatisfied with it's street performance. You would be surprised how much of a difference even a 1/4 of an inch will make. _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

Thanks for all the replays. I missed the sticky at the bottom FAQ. And after seeing the comments about Thing spindles. I called my buddy that just restored a Thing for his wife and has a couple parts cars and asked if he had a couple of spindles. He said he had a complete beam I could have. Going to pick it up this morning and get it cleaned up and rebuild it. |

I would not go more then 3/8" on the turn if 75% of your driving is going to be on road, I did 7/16" on a Class 11 look a like and it is always on the stops.
You will need some sort of a droop stop or it will wipe out your shocks, I put a hook stop on my car but only for droop so its not banging when it bottom out.
