It's nice to see a portuguese girl in good hands!
Our vans, or 90% of them, arrived at Portugal like panel ones and in primer.
The laws at the time (before 1975) permit car factorys in the country with many restritions... like this ones:
- the windows must have portuguese glass (all VW, but made by Covina ou Rochedo - you could see that in your van)
- the tires should be portuguese (Mabor)
- the battery should be portuguese (Tudor)
- the back seats were made in Portugal by molaflex
- they opened the back windows in VW in Portugal;
- the vans arrived in primer many times and were all painted here;
- the wire system was also many times made in Portugal also...
This keep a lot of jobs for the people... Today we have the VW Autoeuropa factory, that made all the Sharans, EOS and Scirocos of the world...
The M-Codes normaly said that, and one from Germany to Portugal was the safari windows... Maybe your van still have the M- plate and you could see some of the M codes about that...
I'm restoring a panel van from 1962. It's from my father in law, and was one of the few that arrived "all ready", because was white and was sold in white. They just put the tires and battery. _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538182 |

Beautiful bus, and it looks like you're enjoying it too. _________________ BarryL wrote:

The whole thing was all there just waiting to be re-atomized. Funny how easily they cut them up back then."

A couple of pictures of it from Portugal
Luckly to previous owner also supplied the bits of bumper that had been cut. Plus the original euro rear lights. _________________ www.dubberware.com "Personalise Your Ride" Stickers, Clothing, Gifts Etc |

Great photos... And was parked on the "star garage"... (out side)... Was in nice shape.
Only two owners? That's a great find... Do you have some photos with the portuguese license plate? If so, and if you agree, can you send by pm for the filles that I'm helping a friend to do? He have allmost 1200 photos from portuguese vans... _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=538182 |

Star Garage?
No photo of the licence plate I'm afraid The pictures are from a guy on the Split Screen Van Club forum here in the UK. He was the 2nd owner who sold it Volksheaven to be cut up as it was pretty rotten
You're quite welcome to the pictures though if they're of any help. _________________ www.dubberware.com "Personalise Your Ride" Stickers, Clothing, Gifts Etc |

The bus was bought new by a guy in Ovar who owned a small grocery shop. The shop is still there Then the 2nd owner bought it in 1993 and sold it to the UK in 2003. _________________ www.dubberware.com "Personalise Your Ride" Stickers, Clothing, Gifts Etc |

Finally got round to doing a westie style wood headliner. After working out some rather odd measurements someone posted on here a while ago
Front panels were a case of cutting approximately then trimming to fit. Not perfect but pretty near...
Thermawrap was glued to the roof then a layer of Earthwool glued to the wood, if wouldn't stick to the Thermawrap
Then some wood batterns were stuck in place to stop the wood missing the slot. This was something I had to work out had to be done after a few attempts without it :rolleyes:
The next step requires 2 people to bend the 3mm birch ply into an S shape to eventually spring up into place.
The rear section was made from the off cut of the 1.5mm birch ply used for the cab panels. The some aluminium strips to cover the joins and a couple of coats of clear wax
I'm rather pleased with how it turned out and the bus is a lot warmer at night and cooler in the sun _________________ www.dubberware.com "Personalise Your Ride" Stickers, Clothing, Gifts Etc |

After a trip to Scarborough on the north east coast of the UK I came home with about 3mm of endfloat With a long trip to Devon and also European Bug In in Belgium lined up I decided to rebuild the engine...
I got a good 2nd hand case and some new AA Performance heads as I had a major valve recess in one and no time to get it machined. I set about it...
Now run in and 1500 plus miles on it
Also now with added waistline pinstripe
