home made metal brake;

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Two large vice grips hold the metal onto the workbench between two pieces of metal angle ; bend metal to what angle you need
this is how I bent the recessed dipstick holder

The type6 rear bumper extension is on hold . I need to locate a local shop that has a four foot wide metal brake . I have the metal and it's all marked . I just need to bend it to go in place...The taillights are ready to go on as soon as I get the bumper extension on
until then I am starting the wiring ; windows ; and doors

One wire at a time. Just chip away and soon you will be camping in it.

Check with shops that do heating and AC duct work. Cool

The only reason I know about it is because I have a friend who works at a shop like that and they're always doing little jobs like that on the side, as well as small production work that has nothing to do with HVAC, when things are slow. Cool

this bracket is for when A/C was installed ina car because it covered the fuze block partially. weird that your car doesnt have a/c, maybe the install was started and never finishedl. have some NOS a/c parts lying around in a barn somewhere?

Looking good! One question though, why start wiring now before the car is painted?

GP is probably tired of pushing the car/van/delivery vehicle around. Are we keeping the current 2 tone look?

Looking good Grandpa. Cool I think if you could string a couple of days in a row on the wiring, you'd have it finished. Twisted Evil
Good talk on the phone last night. Very Happy

I've got a secret weapon when it comes to wiring

ME Shocked

13 years at New England Telephone Company ; working on all kinds of crazy electronics.......
Do you know where the voice comes from that says " that number is no longer in service " or
......".Please deposit 50 cents more "

AND
I have the bug me video on rewiring a bug

the only thing stopping me is waiting on WW order with the new fuse panel

Hey bobnotch you will like this one.........
..Because the taillights are going to be in a removeable rear bumper I decided to wire them through a TRAILER plug....easy in and out Very Happy

I didn't have any problem fitting the bug engine wires onto the type3 engine .almost everything fit..one wire needs a little stretching Shocked

That would be how I'd do it, if I were installing them into something removable. Wink
Personally I like wiring, as it's easy once you know what you're doing. Cool

With all of you on the wiring being fun - I LOVE doing it. Only project that I am not enthused about the the current one because I have mental block on reading the newer format wiring diagrams for a 73. Gonna have to get a tutorial from Ashman40 when I am ready.

Pete - you are kicking ass - project is looking really good. LOVE stuff that is out of the box.....

I got all the wires figured out AND most of them hooked up Very Happy

Couldn't use a couple of the used pieces I had ( couldn't read the terminal numbers off the used headlight switch and the newer dimmer relay wasn't even close )

Need to clean and install spedo to hook up those wires

NOTE ; Aggrivated at Wolfsburg West for sending out ANOTHER 66 fuse panel that isn't correct. I had read a couple of months ago about another Samba member getting a 66 fuse panel missing a terminal. I assumed that they corrected this in house....THEY DIDN"T......fortunately for me ; I had a piggyback clip in my shop . Most hobbyists would not have this part available

HEY WW FIX THIS ...STOP sending these out ..........

Shocked 60,000 views as of noon 8/2/14 Shocked

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

You can see in this photo that the first fuse on the left has TWO connections on the back

NOTE to andK5591 ; Check out the 71 wiring diagram for the same vehicle , still old style drawing most of the wireing will be the sama through 73 . any changes should be obvious Wink
