What is the rpm ratio from the crank pulley to the generator pulley on a 4 cam engine? Looks to be close to or a little over a 1:1 ratio in photos. Searched and cannot find an answer. Figured you Porsche guys would know.

Pretty sure it's 1:1.

Thanks Glenn. Curious. Saw one up close at a recent show. Owner did not know and I didn't dare ask to measure the pulleys.

I don't have One for sure! Really curious about fan speed on an engine producing up to 8,000 rpms.

I worked on a Speedster kit car that had a reproduction "4 cam" fan shroud made for the Type 1 engine. It had a 1:1 lower pulley.

I asked a "4cam guy" this very question yesterday and was told 1:1, as Glenn said. Lower pulley should be 4" if matched with a 4cam upper pulley.

Thanks Alamento. Did not know the size. So, 4" on both. Absolutely amazing what these engines did for Porsche in the early 50's. As someone said "A work of Art" and complicated and expensive to maintain.

Thanks Glenn,
Good Post and photos. I have seen the video. Wow! Read a lot on this engine after seeing one. Glenn, did you start and run up the one you worked on?

That's not mine.

There's only a few people that have the knowledge and tools to rebuild a 4 cam engine.

Jeff Adams is one of them.
