2014 Type 3 Rally - October 3-5, 2014 - Cayucos, CA

From the people who brought you the 2011 Type 3 50th anniversary California Central Coast weekend, it's… The 2014 Type 3 Rally!

It’s going to take place in and around Cayucos, CA the weekend after the 2014 Solvang VW Veteranentreffen. The rally will begin on the Friday following the Solvang show, and we will plan Type 3 events in the Cayucos area on Saturday and on Sunday morning. We're talking a whole Type 3 weekend!

The rally route is still being discussed, but expect a scenic, twisty drive along the ocean and through the foothills and mountains along the central coast.

For anyone who enjoyed the 50th anniversary Type 3 weekend, or wishes in hindsight that they had gone, this is your chance to participate in the sequel! Join us for a day or for the whole weekend. All Type 3s are welcome — early or late, stock or custom, show cars and hoopties, Notchbacks, Squarebacks, Fastbacks, Type 34s…even SP2s.

Once again Cayucos, CA, will be our base of operations. Here’s our planned itinerary:

Thursday, October 2
Self-organized caravans to Cayucos from north and south and arrive by the early evening. At about 7pm there will be an informal gathering at one of the local restaurants.

Friday, October 3
At 10:30am earlybirds and new arrivals will meet at the Borradori Garage parking lot for a drivers meeting and the beginning of Day 1 of the rally.
By noon we’ll arrive at the city park in downtown Paso Robles. This will be a meeting point for anyone who wants to join the rally midday. From there we’ll drive through the beautiful wine country between Paso Robles and Cambria.
Day 1 of the rally ends mid-afternoon back in Cayucos at the parking lot of the Borradori Garage, where we’ll have an informal Type 3  car show. A food truck with currywurst, bratwurst and other German street food will arrive later in the afternoon.
Later in the evening everyone will be on their own to visit some of the local establishments or just take it easy.

Saturday, October 4
At 10am Day 2 of the rally begins again at the Borradori Garage parking lot. From there we’ll head up the coast on Highway 1.
Just after noon we’ll meet at Sand Dollar Beach in lower Big Sur for a lunch break. This will be another meeting point in case anyone coming from the north wants to join us there on Saturday.
The rally will officially end again at the Borradori lot, but from there we’ll continue to nearby Hardie Park at the north end of Cayucos, where we’ll have a tri-tip BBQ and hang out into the evening.

Sunday, October 5
We’ll meet at the Borradori parking lot for an informal breakfast and farewell.
