several years ago while learning I had electrical issues with my bug my good body advised me to disconnect the battery ground cable clean contacts at the tail lights insure that car got good grounding after couple hours working replacing old with new housings directionals new bulbs i decided to clean the fuse box and replace all fuses with new german ceramic ones, all looks good I take a break talk to my friend he advises to only connect the battery without tightening the terminal just in case i need to remove it quickly.
no problem so far time to test turn lights on, and then pop, pop, pop, my buddy yields german popcorn began to laugh minor smoke out fuse box from burn fuses, quickly removed terminal the problem misconnected tail lights I fix it try again is all good, no more pop corn.
great experience learned! hope help you guys
when working on your vw do not smoke cigarrettes keep area smell free also the noise down no loud music, never tighten the terminal until completly sure. this the good advise that my good mechanic friend gave me
