Quite interesting. The design was originally filed in Germany on April 29 1939 (but was never published locally). This is the priority date, so the design can be claimed for this date, even though patents were applied for in Switzerland, US and France in 1940 and not published until 1941 (in CH + FR) or 1942 (for US).

Any one know what the shell might have looked like?
Any chance Ben Pon knew of these?

Looks like the "Pon" name in the first page. Can anyone translate it?

The tekst say's that until recently Benedict Pon was known as the father of the type 2, but now the Motor Revue had discovered a forgotten patent that is the basis for the design of the Bulli ( bus - Lieferwagen) in 1939. 8 years before Pon. Designer is named Ferdinand Porsche.

Greetings Peter

Just like the 1st prototypes by Pon. The bus body weight was too much for the beetle chassis. and they just colapsed/failed during use.

No real point in making one unless you add more strength like the 50 onwards design.

Interesting though Smile
