I was watching a video and I thought I saw a pic that showed a wire basket cup holder behind the shifter. I don't see how they did that. Only place I could find for mine is in front of the shifter, but I think it is going to be to far forward to reach comfortably. Where do you guy's put your cup holders?

Also, under the bonnet on the drivers fender there are 2 clips. What are they supposed to be holding?

Thanks!

I've never seen one of those now-too-popular baskets behind the shifter- it's park-brakerly impossible.

Now the clips I do know- they retain your currently ineffective gas tank breather hose. Your breather hose should come out of the neck spigot- clip upward (above the gas "water line") then back down into the hole in the fender well- outside to the wheelwell's fresh air. Some owners who do not know about the hose's function will cut it off too short- running it only 8" to it's destination.

If your current hose is not long enough for this loop- replace it. If it cuts straight down to the outlet hole- then it is not serving as a breather- but rather a "hard right turn automatic gas draining device"

Without the proper breather- I'd expect you to smell gas fumes more often- and drip fuel when you needn't.

That's why that hose is so long! LOL I had no clew, and here I was trying to shove it down in the hole more, didn't get it down more then an inch though so I was wondering what I was going do with the rest of that hose. Now I know. Very Happy Thanks a bunch!!!!

I will look at that video again, maybe I was just seeing things on the cup holder position.

If you are just seeing things, so am I. I have also seen the basket between the shifter and brake.

Here is the video I saw it in. It is at 3.16. It's hard to see, but it sure looks to be behind the shifter.

That wire basket is too far for me plus I have the bamboo parsal tray. I got the "plug n chug" drink holder that goes in the ashtray slot. Made by classic consoles.

I saw one of those, but I had just bought the wire one. I may have to look into the ashtray one. Thanks for the name!

Maybe they cut the parcel part of it out so they could shift with it over it? I will have to look at mine to see if that would even be possible.

Does anyone have a link to the Custom Consoles one? I went to their site and looked at their distributors and really didn't see one that would sell for VW's. Well one did, but I would have to call. If I can't find an online source, I will call them, but I prefer to do everything via computer now a days.

Drinkholdersplus.com is the place I ordered it from, they had best color options but classic consoles is who made it. I really want the bench seat one for the kids in the back.

My wire basket sits on the tunnel just in front of the back seat. I can't put it in front of the shifter 'cos it interferes with the headlight dip switch as my car is RHD. But sat just behind the driver's seat it works well.

As mentioned, those plastic clips are for securing a fuel tank breather hose...

You might be thinking of the new SCAB Industries cup holder. That one fits behind the shifter and close to the floor. That one is really cool. It is so easy reaching and grabbing your drink and you never hit it with your feet and it fits nice and snug around the tunnel. It fits more drinks than the basket. You should check it out. Its on the website scabindustries.com and it still might be a featured ad on the samba.

I can only fit my basket in front of the shifter but its annoying as I can't hit the high beams with it there (RHD). I got rid of it and got the scab industry one.. far better.. can fit a bigger range of cups and they don't tip over in it - very secure and easy to reach.

Can anyone give the technical name (if any) for the tiny clips that hold the fuel overflow hose. Even better if you can share a link of where they are available. I have not been able to find them on WW, WCM or MAmotorworks. The old ones on my car were brittle and broke when I tried to remove them in prep for car paint job.

Thanks in advance

Volvo used them for years as spark plug wire clips, they used a metal tab as a holder for them, but that is easily removed.
Here is one source...
http://www.ipdusa.com/products/5556/103364-spark-plug-wire-clip

Search the Volvo part number for other online sources, or go to your local Volvo retailer to purchase or order...#1306510

I bought one of those baskets like the one in the picture and I can't keep it from flopping around or keep my foot from hitting it. I suppose you could cut a small slot in the carpet and use the 90 degree leg to hook into it.

IMHO the Plug and Chug is the only way to go. I've had one for years and they are very stable while driving.

The problem is I don't know what they are called. I have been looking under clips, under fuel related bits and what not. I am surprised that none of the VW part suppliers have them listed. If only I hadn't thrown the broken one away I would have even carved a rudimentary one out of a piece of kitchen cutting board. I will keep looking. Cheers
