1971 Super Beetle.
Purchased in April 2004 from the original owner. She was 94 years young. It has 86,000 original miles. Bought it in New Hampshire. The lady's name was Lily. The car is named after her. She's a keeper! Thanks Lily!

This is Suzie, my '72 Super. I got her around the middle of last year as a secondary ride while I worked on Gina (my Ghia). Her PO was intending to make her into an "art car," which appears to be a CA thing, as I've never heard of it elsewhere. He started on the fenders, painting them with chalkboard paint and then drawing all over them. I washed that off right after I got home. Suzie was pretty abused, besides the paint. Funky wiring, missing engine tin, no less than 4 seat covers on each seat hiding a different hole, etc. I've been nursing her back to health and drive her at least 60 miles a day.

Thanks Windy. I have a few more lets just say Laughing

But thats my one and only Super. I go through alot of VW's. But there are 4 or five of my cars I plan to keep and she is one of them. Can't get any better when you buy from a original owner. It has the original engine and everything. Its not too rough for a 35 year old car in the North East either. At 23 mpg I put about 4200 miles on it when I daily drove it last summer. Its also one of the strongest running 1600cc engines I have in all my cars.
Thanks again!

My 71 Super is a real beater but I keep picking away at it. I'd been looking for a beetle in Iowa for years as there are simply none to be found here, when out of the blue a guy north of Minneapolis calls and has a super. He put an earlier front bumper on it as it was hit in the front and made sure it was running smoothly. The whole story is at http://www.starthinker.com/vw but here are some pics. I just keep waitning for warmer weather....

Picked mine up about 9 months ago from the second owner for $2500.00
Once I got it home I dumped another $2000.00 in it to get to this point, I drive it 65 miles a day to work and back.

That box is from an industrial toilet paper rolling machine and will be gone when I get my new dash board in. I caught a lot of grief for it when I joined the Samba.

This is my '72 Super that was baja'd (bought it that way). I bought it on July 7, 2001. I only mention this date because in the owner's manual, I found out that my bug was first delivered on July 7, 1972 in Danbury, CT. I thought it was pretty cool that it turned out that way. I haven't done much to my bug since I bought it, and I haven't really needed to. I only drive it in the warmer months (April-October) and have a ton of fun taking it to the local car show and cruise nights. I also had it in our annual parade in town where it was a hit.

The first VW I ever drove. '72 SB Sunroof, got it for $1100. Drove it for a year and a bit before giving it back to my parents and getting my '67. Seen there with a classmate's '63

Memories include getting my first BJ in it, as well as some trips.

One day I told my mom I was going to the beach. I wound up driving 240 miles away to visit some old friends in Ft Bragg, CA. We went to the beach. She doesn't think its the same thing as driving 40 miles to Santa Cruz Very Happy

Another time I drove to LA and back in a night to pick up a girl to go to a Marylin Manson concert. She missed her train, and told me she'd put out if I drove to get her. Well, it made the trip, she was good on her word, and we remain good friends to this day. I typed up the ordeal somewhere here in the forum a while back...

Good times, but I just wanted something nicer. I'm happier with my '67, but I miss the 2 stage rearview mirror, and while the lowback seats are way more stylish I think the '72 seats were more comfortable. Also, I miss the sunroof.
