I’m gathering parts for a new engine for my ’65 Double Cab and have a question on cam choice.
Engine specs:
2110cc, using 90.5 B-pistons and forged 82mm counterweighted crank
Rods: 5.325” H-beam
Case: Stock
Heads: MOFOCO 042, 40mm Intake, 35.5 Exhaust (New but purchased about 8 years ago)
Rockers: Pauter 1.4:1 (have not purchased yet)
Pushrods: HD Aluminum
Lifters: CB 28mm Ultralight
Induction: CB Fuel Injection (Will purchase new style due out in fall.)
Exhaust: A-1 Sidewinder 1-1/2 headers, with O2 bung, and flangged 1-1/2 J-tubes in heater boxes
Flywheel: New, stock weight, drilled for 8 dowels
All rotating parts have been balanced by CB.
Note: Reduction box trans with 3.88

I live in Texas so it will see a lot of highway miles. I’m not looking for a 5000RPM screamer. I’m looking for a reliable engine with good low and mid-range torque. The cams I’m looking at are noted below. Looking for some recommendations from these or others. If you recommend others please provide duration and lift for the cam.

Cams----------dur-------lift @ cam
CB 2238-------274------0.319
CB 2236-------280------0.339
CB 2280-------274------0.359
Engle FK-41---269------0.364
Engle FK-42---275------0.373
Engle FK-65---280------0.342

I know I’ll get some grief on my choice of exhaust size and flywheel. I've got them and I'd like to use them.

I like the fk65 for your combo and of the choices you listed. Although I feel your build would be a nice candidate for a dual lobe like a web 218/119. Heavy flywheels for buses are the smart choice, so u picked right. Pauters imo are over kill. A forged set would do just fine. I probably would also advance at the gear a degree or two. My take.

Web 86A. 502" Valve Lift with 1.5 Rockers, 290 degrees of advertised duration, and 252 degrees of duration at .050" checking clearance.

I have that in my single cabs 2180 with nearly the identical specs as yours (except for FI) and I love it. Pulls hard and is very smooth throughout the power band.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I built this 2110 for a customer's 67 Bus, full weight fly wheel, 1.5" exhaust, efi, crank triggered. Runs almost the last set of CB Los Pancheato heads and a 2242 CB cam with stock rockers and solid shafts. Pulls like a train and extremely drivable. Also runs a t-1 4.12 trans I built with no reduction boxes.
