Just bought a 67 Fastback, my first air cooled car. I have lost something off of my exhaust. Have a Bentley in the mail but I want to go ahead and identify and order the right piece. Will someone help a noob out? Also, would the loss of this part cause poor idling?

Looks like you lost the elbow that goes from the shroud to the small heat exchanger, they are side specific.

They attach with rubber boots on the shroud, and clamps on the small heat exchanger. The small tubes attach to the tubes that run through the tins, under the heads. There should be clamps, rubber boots, and hoses that attach most everything air related so that there are no air leaks. These are major components of the engine cooling system, and the not as important cabin heater.
It also looks like you may have lost the wide metal clamp that connects the small to the large heat exchanger. |
