That's going to drive like ass, bring a spare pair of underwear along for the test drive
You can reindex the torsion bars and grind the stops off the torsion housings but then the shock absorbers will be overextending and acting as the stops, you'll also need CV joints with a larger range of motion. It's as simple and economical as you'd hope. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

The buggy guys use Porsche CV's to accomplish this. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

I like these threads- opportunities to enlighten the folks who don't post but read and "learn" from homebrew modifications. I see the CVs were already mentioned, but there's also the rollover scenario.
Volkswagen KNEW what they were doing with these cars' ride heights. For example, we can look at the spring plate angle recommended for campmobiles compared to station wagons. The measurements are minutes, maybe a degree off. (Anyone have the exact specs in front of them?) The campmobile is set at a lower height to offset the higher center of gravity due to the extra weight from the roof and extra cabnitry. This PROVES that VW wanted the C.O.G. of these cars to be at an extremely specific point.

Know what - he should go for it and report back what happens. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

had a '77 or so someone had doctored the rear torsions, they did it
because the bus was an amp/gear carrier for a band of some sort.
Rest of the bus was a fuel injected delight, the firmed up rear
"supension" blew chunks & I was too lazy to remedy it.
Save $$$$ and call Airkewld for an airbag setup, you'll be alot
poorer but remain very alive too. |

I too had my rear set to high, as I have posted a bunch of times before. The ride totally sucked, unless...I was really loaded. It was a rough ride, hopped around corners and topped out on the stops all the time.
Second time I did it I had read and understood the concept more and re set them. Here's what I did. I bought an angle finder from HD, I measured the original angle, unweighted and got 21*. Then I measured the angle with it moved one spline and got 28*. So I attempted to split the difference, not exactly but I came up with 25.5*. I moved the inner and outer both 5 splines in opposite directions to obtain this. My bus feels like it's floating down the road now, the ride is excellent. Good luck _________________ __________

I wonder what amount of of track increase would be to negate the affects from a given height increase. _________________ Wash your hands

I cannot see that as being safe by any means. |

I don't even like the idea of notched spring plates for bugs. That's really testing the strength of a vital component _________________ Wash your hands
