|
|
I want order an adjustable beam ball joint for my 1970 vw type 1
I will order it from cbperfornarce ( quality products )
my question..... what else do I need ??
I think... I can pul the arms, pull out the torsion leaves, disconect the steering box, unbolt the beam
put the new beam on, slide in the torsion leaves, put back the arms, connect back the steering box...... and
how do I make it lower ??
with a jack ?? lower it down and then tight the nut ???
do I need something else ??
I do want my car lower in the front, this will be my 1st time
( lastime I just pull leaves out to lower the card... not good idea)

You are correct on the listed above.
I will add that this is a perfect time to check/update the other wearing parts as needed.
Balljoints
Tie Rod ends
Wheel bearings
Steering stabilizer shock

yes, if I can, I want change to an adjustable ball joint beam
from CBperformance, I know I will get quality from them
my 1st time doing this, how do I know if I need Trailing arm grease seals ?
do I have to be lying on the floor to lower the car down ? with a jack then just tight the nut ???
do I need caster shims ?? |

Look at the ones on your beam now, clean them and see if they need replaced.

You do need to jack the car up to relieve most of the stress off of the adjusters and turn them the way you want to go.

Ball Joint is not as bad as Link Pin, but if you plan on running the buggy with a lot of rake, (front end down a lot more than the rear), then caster shims will help in the handling department. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class

If you just want it lower, you don't need an adjustable beam, you can just cut and turn the center sections. With a balljoint I believe 1/8" of rotation, either lowered or raised is about all you want or you risk over-deflecting the ball joints and damaging them. I'm sure there are lots of threads on how to do it

Why not put adjusters in the beam that you have.Has for what you need, that will depend on what you have, take the beam out, clean and check every thing, then decide what you need. |

Murzi probably has the best plan, or $170 for US made CB Perf spindles. |

If the OP is looking for an adjustable beam so he can raise or lower when he wants, as in his first post, drop spindles will not accomplish that.
If all that is wanted is a lowered buggy, a cut and turn is even cheaper, but the drop spindles will give the best lowered ride.
After making changes, do not forget to have the front suspension aligned. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class

Beach Buggies are so much lighter than the Bug they where built from that a cut and turn or adjusters are generally needed to get the suspension back down into the original travel range. A suspension that is nearly topped out does't ride very well.
It should be noted that drop spindles will widen the front suspension, that could be good or bad depending on the buggy body. _________________
