Did a quick search before posting but didnt come up with any answers to repair, only replace.
The washer bottle does not seem to be getting pressurised at all from any tire. Tried the KG spare as well as a spare from our daily driver.
I can suck ( eugh! ) water from the bottle and I can blow through the windshield jets so that leads me back to the valve in the top of the bottle.
Are these known to stick shut and is there anything I can do to free it up? I did notice there is a white piece of plastic at the top of the valve that possibly seats against the neck of the washer bottle. It in turn pushes down on a small pin running down the centre of the valve. This is free and moves without a problem.
Could it simply be a lack of pressure or is there anything else I can try with the valve? even with low pressure I would assume that the bottle would get at least a little pressure even if it wasnt enough to force the water out? |

I don't connect my bottle to the spare, I just pressurise it with a foot-pump. If you have a foot-pump just connect it to the valve and pump it up by hand. That should clear the valve if it's sticky...max 35psi marked on my bottle. _________________ John.

Thanks John but my cap doesnt have a schrader valve on it to allow connection of a pump. The pipe has the screw on part that goes to the tire valve and that connects directly to the cap.

If you have an air compressor with a quick connect hose, then you could fabricate yourself a Schrader valve to quick connect adapter fitting like this.
If you don't have a quick connect hose on your air compressor, then if you can find yourself two Schrader valve to barb adapters and a small section of appropriate size hose you could make a male to male Schrader valve adapter hose to connect your washer bottle spare tire hose fitting to your air compressor. |

Well I pumped the spare tire up to 42psi, connected the valve and nothing. Screwed the valve into the bottle, still nothing.
Pulled the spare wheel and the bottle out of the car to make it easier to work on and when I dropped the bottle ( oops! ) water started coming out of the bottom. Looks like the valve was just stuck shut and needed a little persuasion to open up. Now just need to stop a small air leak and we should be good to go!

This is for an earlier Ghia BUT it is plumped the same way in later models. Part 15 is a pressure regulator. It prevents the spare deflating . So you pump the spare to a fairly high pressure and the regulator allows air to flow and pressurise the bottle and the lines up to the switch. Pressing the button opens a valve to release pressure to the water nozzle and water is driven out of the bottle through the lines and onto the window.
On your system the tyre pressure comes in through the cap shown in your picture and the water flows to the switch via tubbing pushed on to a nozzle on the bottle. Kinda the reverse of the diagram. You might be missing the regulator, not sure, but it might be built into the cap shown in your picture.
Crazy system but it does work. Pity nobody understands how. Similar to the horns one could say.
BTW this thread talks about it some

Now you know why men kick the TV when the remote won't change the channels. (And thanks for the thread. I have to get my '68's washer system working this weekend. Enough info here to get me going.) _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

I posted on this same bottle.

My valve like yours also was bad. Apparently they fail a lot and are useless. Quick way to test it is take off the cap. Push in the white plastic piece from under the cap, in with a screw driver. Hook up hose to a tire and see if you get air out. Mine didn't. Valve broken |
