Dear Friends,

It was a great and long-anticipated day. Jenny Ross, now in her 90's, got to see and ride in the 1962 Karmann Ghia convertible she bought new in Erie, Pennsylvania at Scott Stewart Volkswagen.

It touched our hearts to see how she loves this little car. Jenny kept and drove her Pacific Blue Ghia until 2010 when she sold it to my wife Kathryn. Today made those many hours of work worthwhile.

Best to all. Jeff

p.s. I found a postcard photo of the Scott Stewart dealership in our archives, so it is posted below. Judging by the cars on the lot and showroom, it was probably about the time Jenny took delivery of her shiny new Ghia.

Awesome to see! I've wondered about the woman who was the original owner of my 1962 Coupe, out in Terra Haute, IN. It would be fun to meet her, but I doubt our paths will cross.
Beautiful woman, and beautiful car. Incidentally, I believe that is the same color as my Coupe was originally. Some day I'll get it back to that color. Cheers!

This story just reinforces the theory that Ghia's are indeed "Babe Magnets" Cool
Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Lovely account and it must have brought back pleasant memories for a special lady. My wife immediately recognised the Dodge in the photo. Her whole family - father, mother and 3 brothers - used to sleep in the car on holidays in Mozambique. Special memories.

Wish that Ghia should put as broad a smile on your face when you're 90.

To think that the year will be about 2090 when I am 90 Shocked . That would be great fun to get a ride in my now 120 year old karmann ghia Very Happy ! And yes, I just might be one of the youngest people on the samba (im 16). Hey, you got to start somewhere! All my friends think I am crazy for knowing so much about cars, but I know that I still have much to learn!

Are you serious?
Do you really think there will be any gasoline for your Ghia when you're 90?
Really?

PostPosted: Thu Aug 28, 2014 3:36 am    Post subject: Albert Einstein Reply with quote

Thanks for kind posts and your support of our Ghia project! I still need to finish up some items, mainly have the new top and headliner installed.

It is ironic that the thread moved into a discussion of energy. Jenny told me a fascinating story about Albert Einstein. She lived in the New York City area in the 1930's and 1940's. She became friends with Mr. Einstein as they often rode the same train while commuting. Jenny told me that one day during one of their discussions on the train, Albert Einstein said "Jenny, everything is constantly in motion."

So even if the fuel pumps run dry, Jenny's Ghia will still be moving, per the authority on energy!

And now a few years later, we are still enjoying the Ghia. Our friend, Jenny, the original owner, passed away a couple years ago, almost 100 years old. The Ghia is a sweet reminder of a remarkable lady.
