1938 VW bullet shaped lighter
1938 Volkswagen bullet shaped cigarette / trench lighter , my guess is that these were made as a promotion when the beetle was first commercially introduced , maybe they were given away with the purchase of a beetle ! it came out of the original cardboard shipping container ,

So, if it's real, how does a person explain the logo, the logo that didn't exist yet in 1938?
It's also very Un-German. Germans wouldn't just say "1938" and slap on a logo, it's far too open ended for the way their brains are wired. A German would feel the need to connect the dots and explain exactly why 1938 and why the logo.
Finally, VW was KDF back then, and KDF was in the middle of a huge anti-smoking campaign. Does it really seem likely that the folks at KDF would be plastering Germany with anti-smoking signs and at the same time be passing out cigarette lighters?
Translation:
Quote: |
“Attack vices rather than complain about ‘burdens.’
2 million KdF cars up in smoke.
Excessive use of tobacco costs the German people 2.35 billion
marks annually, enough for around 2 million KdF cars, or enough gas for
those cars to drive 50 billion kilometers)!
We need to rationalize our people’s economy!”
