I used to be into the Volkswagen Beetle scene a long time ago. I wanted to start getting back into it and restore a few. I found this Volkswagen on Craigslist.

The owner listed it as a VEEP but I dont think so. It has a wrong front-end and many other things are questionable.

Does ANYONE know what it is?

I think you nailed it. It does look just like an EMPI Sportster.

Might be alot of fun to restore.

Does anyone know if the parts are still pretty attainable? Even the body kit maybe? The body might be to shot on this one to fix.

Sure is nice in Seattle, eh? Laughing

In the midwest, we'd call that "light surface rust". No way that would be scrapped, it's a perfect restoration candidate. Cool

The Veep used a WWII Jeep body. I'm not sure that this is a genuine Sportster. Are the fenders fiberglass?

If you go there, you will find everything down to measured drawings of every part and assembly instructions.

I'd replace those flimsy siderails with a proper anti-intrusion bar on a roll bar.

Empi Sportster is correct.

The VEEP did not use a WWII body, but a fabricated body that was cloned from a Jeep CJ3A. It was just a hair smaller (7/8 scale), and a boxed frame that is similar, yet stronger than an F150. Scamp was another that cloned the VEEP, to the point of numerous lawsuits from Veep and Scamp and Jeep, etc...
