Got tied of not be able to find reverse & sloppy long throws. Of course it did not help that the front bushing was long gone.
I know I’m gonna get flamed for this but…No way was I about to spend upwards of $250 for a Berg or CSP shifter. And the Scat Drag fast is not currently being manufactured.
Plus for what it’s worth the CSP I had in my Beetle lasted only 2,000 miles & the reverse lock out went south and would not engage 3 rd gear. (replaced with stock unit & works fine now)
A friend has EMPI shifters in his Buggy & Bus & likes them. I tried the one on his bus & it was nice. So I decided to take a chance on one.
Replaced the bushing cleaned & lubed every thing up & and installed the EMPI Bus shifter. Then went for test run. WOW, what a difference.
Reverse is available on demand along with smooth, short, positive gear
selection. Maybe I was just lucky. I will let you all know if & when it breaks.

Where did you get your shifter? Is it tall enough? My stock is toast and I'd like to get one like yours. (Yes, even if it's EMPI). Can't afford the GB either. |

CIP1 but you can find them almost anyplace that sells VW parts... I can find no fault with the shifter. I'm very happy with it. |

If you are looking for an "EMPI" bus shiter get the real Hurst deal. "Glandnut" in Jacksonville rebuilds the old Hursts. I have had two in two different busses. Had an EMPI in the 2nd bus when I bought it. It was soon replaced. _________________ '72 Bus |

How do you know that? I was wondering because that is the shifter I am interested in. Thanks! _________________ If you haven't bled on them, you haven't worked on them.

I had one back ordered from J Bugs. They told me that Scat has problem with the manufacturer or something. There have been no new ones in the "pipe" for a while now. |

Anybody know if these are sturdy when mounted? I have a plastic one from another vendor, but it's pretty flimsy, if my kid pulls herself up again it'll probably break. _________________ Rick
