My brake lights will not work if the running lights are on. If I turn the running lights off they work. Is this a ground problem or is the wiring messed up. The head lights also only work when the key is on, but the running lights work with key on or off.
One more thing. Will a '73 dash fit my '74 bus? |

Yes that indicates a ground problem, instead of grounding through the socket and wire to the body the electrons head for the rest of the well grounded filaments in the running light system, I see sandpaper, a wire brush and vaseline in your immediate future
The dash fit thing is tricky, if it's an early 74 with the separate signal/wiper switch then yes no problem, mid year 74's and up with the integrated signal/wiper/ignition switch have a different cutout over the column and may cause interference. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I'm guessing its early. Turn signal on left side of steering wheel and windshield wipers are on right side. |

I just went over mine with a burned out bulb found as the culprit , but a great tip I found here on this forum was to use a dremel tool with a small wire brush attachment to clean up the sockets Wow shined up everything just like new grounds too!

Yeah, they are all like that after 72, is there some column tube showing between the turn/wiper switch or are they all in one big smooth unit? Is the shaft on the wiper and turn switch round or square? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

If both yours and the donor buses column look the same the dash will fit. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.
