|
|
I purchased a Westy rack from Buffalo, NY thinking I could ship it using Greyhound as I have shipped many large items like that. Turns out they have a 47" limit for the second largest dimension.
So... is anyone making a trip from NY to CA in the near future? The rack will fit any bus so that shouldn't be an issue. Obviously I'm willing to pay to have it brought out.
Please contact me via PM if your interested or know somebody who is.
Thanks. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

You might check this sticky in the Buyer/Seller forum: Shipping Tricks and General Shipping Questions / Discussion
AmTrack is mentioned as a shipper in that thread. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |

I did look at Amtrak but they have a 3ft x 3ft x 3ft size limit so wouldn't work for this item. I'll look thru the sticky for other ideas.

I have shipped roof racks on Greyhound wrapped in plastic wrap, and it is 30"X48"X84" we have written here for Greyhound. Take it there well wrapped, so it won't scratch the suitcases or they'll tell you "No Way" You can also offer $100 for a car/trailer hauler on www.uShip.com to haul it. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

Here are their limits:
30" L x 47" W x 82" H.
It's the second dimension that prevent this from being shipped by them:
56" x 56" x 30"
I've got a listing on uship to see what comes up there. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

Not easily plus it's in original condition so I would hate to take it apart. The top basket on the Westy racks uses aluminum rivets on the corners and the only way to take them apart is to drill them out. The rest breaks down easily but old/original screws tend to break before they loosen up. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

Happy ending to story, I'm the guy who sold the roof rack. I crated it up (see pictures) and ended up shipping it Forward Air. Dropped it off Thursday and it arrived Yesterday. Buffalo to LAX. Cost for a box 57" x 59" x 19" weighing 96 lbs was $218.00.

Yes, Ray did a great job getting it crated up and delivered to the Forward Air depot (Thanks Ray!). I picked it up at the Carson depot on my way home from work and it was in great shape.
Foward Air seems like a decent option for large items like this assuming there is a depot that is close to you. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |
