That dome light is awesome, definitely in the mega-rare category. Did I read correctly that you picked up two of them? Very very nice score.

that is a beautiful base for a restoration. you have to be happy with it. are you planning to do a full stock restoration or something with a twist?
it's kind of sad, but the stack of vw paint excites me as much as the car. |

does anyone know anything about this Eberspächer muffler. |
Well, Eberspächer is a old german company wich produced several technical products ove the years.
Later famous for their independent vehicle heating systems, they also produced a huge range of exhaust mufflers for differend cars.
Well known is this early beetle muffler with its unique shape.
As far as I know it appeared as early as 1948 as an aftermarket product and was produced just for some years with this look.
For a useable one people pay some hundred bucks I think. _________________ Master of my domain! |

Plan is to stay with the original color and interior, or as close to. |

I'm thinking that, that may not be the correct gas cap. |

Well today i made my first purchase on parts for my split. Got an original vw muffler, i know its not technically correct but its what im gonna run with cause i dont want an original rusting out if and when i find one. I also picked up 2 front fenders from a 51 split. I have a slight concern that they are not original because the horn hole is not perfectly circular(slightly wavy). They match up exactly to my original pass fender with making some rough measurements. Arent they suppose to have different wheel arches though?? They've been off the car for 30 years. What makes me believe they are original is that the bottom of the buckets have been repaired from rust outs 2" circle on pass, 4" circle on drivers side, and the bottoms of each front have had some rust repair. Theyve got to be original because how else could the car received repops at one point and those repops rusted out by 1980. I think i made out pretty well for $600!
Heres some pics.

Could the horn hole have been cut by a p.o? I thought I read that standard splits didnt come with horn holes. |

Gas cap has a slight dome. No VW, If you have a small one with VW it may be off a bus (67ish) |

And you might already know this but I believe Zwitter fenders had oval horn grills. |

Yeah, the fenders for a Zwitter are the same up to early 55 aren't they? I rememebr there being a discussion someplace about the shape being different, especially in regards to the wheel arch? |
