Anyone know how difficult it is and what's needed to go from VDub 4 lug to VDub 5 lun on a ballpoint front end? Will the drums for and work properly or not? Just like the look of the 5 lug better. I know someone somewhere on here has done this already. Thanks in advance |

Early ball joint (67 or 68) was wide five, I think it was 69 or 70 when they went to 4 lug.... First year (early) ball joint (wide five) should interchange with late ball joint drums (4 lug) .... Only issue may be inter bearing and seal.... Seem to remember inner bearing/spindle has slightly smaller ID than later bearing/spindle and seal... But bearings interchange in drum....

Yes the 1966-67 Bugs in the USA used 5lug drums. First year for Bugs 4lug drums in USA was in 1968.
And yes there is a difference of inner wheel bearing. Easiest way to tell was size of tie rod nut thread, if it a 10mm it small bearing, if it is 12mm it the larger bearing. _________________ Joseph
