So the next thing to check off on the build is fixing the door rust. We started grinding it down awhile ago so I painted over it to prevent it from rusting more. It's the same damage on both doors in the same spot we already have the sheet metal to replace it I just have to find a day that we can work on it. Once the doors are off, they need to be finished the same day
But with bad news comes good news. I finally got the money to purchase a 10" kicker for this beast I'm pretty stoked! And now that it's mine I can do what I want to it. I'd love to build a custom front bumper with a skid plate and mount a couple lights OH YES. _________________ Money is a gas, not a trip

Yes! Actually I was about to post them but I have leave to work in a few so I don't have time until tonight.
Anyways I'll fill you guys in without pics. Got new door panels and fabbed up a strut for the new armrests so NOW you'll be impressed;) I'm really happy with the interior.
I also just got back from the tire shop with some new front bfg all terrain T/As (same ones I had). To clear any confusion, I was having front end problems. I replaced the old spindles which were probably OG since 63' with some new ones with shitty Chinese made pins. I'll probably replace the link pins with the bilsteins I had in the old ones. Anyways the spindles fixed the problems I was having but the tire treads were BAD! And they played a big role in the tires flexing. So got some new ones and I'm pretty stoked. The car handles better than it ever has since I've had the car!
I'm filling the spindles with grease as I type this so I can head off to work with this baby. We'll see how she handles on the freeway! Hopefully she isn't a double-laner anymore haha.
Anyways, I'll post pics tonight when I'm home _________________ Money is a gas, not a trip

Cant wait to see some pics.
I wrapped up the motor that the carb you sold me was for. Like a dummy, I didn't check jet sizes till I was trying to break it in. lol New carbs are always shipping with the smallest jets and they wouldn't even run my 1915. oops. lol
Hope all is well. Car is lookin good. _________________ Ms Hoover, I glued my head to my shoulder.

Just some updated pics
The new tires
This is the armrest strut that goes behind the door panels. I only had the passenger side so I fabbed up another one by looking at it. I don't think anyone sells these. There'd be good money in making these as a side job haha.
Also got new black door panels with black armrests. Huge step up from the dirty white ones with the pockets sagging open by the crapped out elastic.
I disintegrated one of the plastic buffers that go around the handles so I picked up some black ones.
Pretty bad pic but the all black looks great with the red
And here's my little lady from Hawaii
This is one of the new spindles I replaced. As you can see, the silver link pin is the shitty Chinese one that came with it which are in the other spindle. And the black is the German made bilsteins that I had in the old ones. I left that one in there because it fit and as I said, if a link pin goes out, I'll replace all of them with the bilsteins.
Another bad pic but I'm suprised I never posted the sub I put in a while ago. 10" with a good amp. The sub is JUST the right size. it hits he seat just a little but doesn't damage it at all

That's funny I was about to ask how the parts worked out for you and that's a bummer man!
You have a sexy paint job on your baja btw, don't be surprised if I steal that color concept.. Or your car _________________ Money is a gas, not a trip

If you steal it, please be kind to her. lol
I ordered an air / fuel meter to help dial in the correct jetting. Should have it soon. I'll be able to use it on other projects as well. The 1915 hits hard. Cant wait to get it off road. Thanks again for the smokin deal. _________________ Ms Hoover, I glued my head to my shoulder.

If I were to build myself an engine it'd definitely be a 1915. And yea man no problem I still have some parts that I need to get rid of that are just sitting in the garage waiting to get yelled at for them lol.
Aaaand yea this just happened
My dad and I have been doing everything we can to quiet it down so now I just wanted to have something to have fun with. It just bolts off of the headers and I can easily bolt the muffler back on.
I didn't do a great job on the welding so I did a lot of grinding but it turned out okay. I don't plan on having this on for very long I just long enough to make my neighbor move haha.
I put a bobtail baffle in it when I welded the two pipes together and this thing screams!
Btw painting it tomorrow _________________ Money is a gas, not a trip

Well I made some changes.
I got myself a couple of 6" 100w offroad lights for when I take it out to the dirt so I welded some tabs on the old bumper I had. After drilling the holes for the lights it turned out i drilled them too close to the bumper so the light clamp wouldn't fit on.
Anyways the bumper was a little bent from the crash I was in and I planned on getting a new one sometime so I just got a custom one at a local shop that some guy makes.
I cut off the old brackets I had that were welded to the beam which held the old bumper on and welded some new ones on. I plan on getting a skit plate for it soon. So I was going to weld some tabs on it below the arch for the lights but I got some money back for returning my old spindles to my local shop so I decided to get a light rack after seeing the price. And with that I had to buy a couple more lights so i got some while I was there but they're a little different since I got the others somewhere else, but I might stick with them. Still have to paint it all but I'm diggin it so far.
This is my daily but I'd like to take it out to some easy trails pretty often

I like the bumper. I'm gonna need a new one in the next year or so and I want something more like this. How much was it? |
Yea I really like he fact that I can see the top of the bumper when I sit up in the seat so I know where the end of my car is. you can order it from Mooreparts.com they're located in Anaheim, ca. That shop is about 30 mins away from me so I just picked it up. The bumper was $205 but I also got a little air filter for the oil filler (which turns out my heater tube is in the way lol) and some mounts so I can weld them on for the lights. My buddy from my vw club works there so it all came down to 200.
It is on the heavier side because the tubing is a bit thick but I plan on getting an aluminum skid plate so the front end doesn't get too heavy. The bumper comes with tabs that you'll have to weld on the beam so you can bolt the bumper to those. And those tabes are the same thickness as the bumper too so if you weld it yourself you won't have to worry about weak penetration. I'll post some pics of the process _________________ Money is a gas, not a trip

Thanks bud! Actually these rims are illegal for street because they are double walled but no one will know. My dad buffed out the small nicks and polished the front rims and I plan on doing the rears sometime. I do like them but I would really love some black ones _________________ Money is a gas, not a trip

This is the tab that someone welded to the beam at some point. Don't judge my awesome fiberglass repair
And this is the new tab I triple pass welded
Then I cut off the old horn mount off the old bumper and welded it on the new one. I welded it while the horn was mounted and the bumper was on so I knew it would fit under everything without any complications. I wasn't too worried about how straight it was as its hidden
Btw I decided to wait on hooking up the lights to the light rack for a number of reasons and decided to mount a couple of the lights to the bumper

Haven't got em hooked up yet but I got the bumper painted. I drilled a couple holes in the skirt so that the wires run straight into it. That way I won't have wires running along the bumper and looks like it's apart of the car if anyone comes by and wants to steel them

My clutch cable decided to break on me on the way to work last week and was stuck just a few blocks away. It was hanging on by just a few strands but I got it tight enough to make it home later
And yea, this happened too. I fabbed up a stinger that was designed for a small diameter exhaust. I cut the ends and grinded the flange so it could fit inside the hole of the bigger flange that fits my header and welded it together to make it look clean and without cutting the stinger down. I didn't bother to get a baffle for it so this thing is fucking loud! All I would need to do to remove it is take off the three bolts that hold it together.
I now have the quiet bobtail, the loud stinger, and the baffled custom straight pipe that's in between. And they're all the 3 bolt, 5 minute installation that bolts on the header.
Anyway I'm really digging the oldschool look of it and I know I'll be getting pulled over for it., but until then...BRAAAAP!
I'd really like to build a simple roof rack for it using some small conduit that fits my small tube bender but I want to include some type of locking where it mounts to the rain gutters so no one steals it. I've seen pad locks being used but other than I haven't done any research on how it could be locked on. I don't think I'd be too worried about welding a nut to the rack cause I don't think I would remove it very often but removal would be ideal. Anyone have any ideas? _________________ Money is a gas, not a trip
