How much clearance should i have between tire and the inside lip of the fender of a bug?
i have a 6 inch wide wheel with 3 1/4" back space. Im going to narrow beam and dont want to have the real narrowed look. Im going for a 2 1/2" drop with spindles. Currently with stock beam im 1/4 - 1/2" from outside fender. Currently have 195/60/14s thst will get replaced soon.

Wheels are 14x6, what tire should i run up in front for a 2 1/2 drop. This will be on my 55. 195, 205?

Thanks

How much is the beam narrowed? That makes a difference there...

I would like to know what clearance works without rubbing? So i can then know how much to narrow the beam.

I would run a slightly narrower tire; a 175/65-14 is 23" tall, but Tirerack only shows 1 tire in the "high performance all season" category (Bridgestone Potenza R32) and no summer tires in this size (6 in the "standard touring all season" though). 185/60's are 22.8" tall and there's more selection- 5 grand touring all season, 3 high performance all season and 2 extreme performance summer. There are other brands, I know, but Tirerack's website makes it easy to compare- http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.js...unFlat=All
I'm not a huge fan of going any wider on the front, but that's me.

I would think that narrowing your beam 2 or 2 1/2" a side would be enough; that takes into account the offset of the spindles and using a slightly narrower tire and would give 1- 1 1/2" fender clearance. It would be nice if those rims had a little more backspacing, but you're working with what you have...

As usual, just my 2 1/2 cents (I'm Canadian, eh). Al
