A 1973 Super Beetle in the US has the BIG FAT curved windshield.. thats the 71-72 style.. lightly curved style..
Think
Now re-looking at the hood.. I dont even think its a Super at all....
Maybe more like a 73 Beetle.. That would make more sense..
Im sure its just a announcement mistake by Johnny....but its still a mistake.

Only Super beetles had curved windsheilds and that started in 1973. They were not lightly curved in 71 or 72 they were flat as a standard beetle's is. This is definitely a 1973 super beetle. I agree word for word with what fifty8 said. He is right. Cool

Yes they were lightly curved in 71-72, same as all 1965 and newer German bugs. Still looked about flat but it wasn't.

That side view of the orange Beetle is deceptive. To me it looks like a Standard as well. But if you actually watch the video and see it from a different angle it's quite obviously a big-front-window 73 Super, they even talk about the bigger windshield in the spiel.

1971 and 1972 Super Beetles used the 65 and newer Beetle Windshield for those 2 years only. The glass has a very slight bow/curve
For the US 1964 and older windshields are perfectly flat.

Now pay attention everyone... Wink
The video I referenced is above.. and the screen shot is below..
The car is YELLOW..(not orange) Johnny announced a 1973 SUPER BEETLE..
Even describes the right car....but,
Nope........ wrong.. (Insert PIR looser Do do dado.. here...)

and yes... ^ it is slightly bowed/curved.. not perfectly flat.
If you have one... got put a straight edge across the glass and you will see.
For the US....1965 and Newer Beetle and 71 and 72 Super Beetle use the same windshield.

Yep.. I think some got confused and assumed.... I was referring to the orange car...

My guess would be they probably used American cars only due to who sponsored the show.

Show started in 1972. I could go through the list of cars offered in the showcase, but the first time a VW came across was;

(9/5/1974) 5 Pricetags, Race Game, Double Prices, a VW bus offered in the showcase.

Response to my post from 2010. Smile

Now that I think about again, I'm sure they took whatever they could get for the show.

Don't have a clue what's going on with the audio on this You-Tube video but there was a 1972 Beetle won in this Price Is Right. You can't see the car until almost the end of the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFXd9vJ0FB8

You are correct and to atone for my mistake earlier in this thread I will add this episode from 1976 where they feature a bay in the showcase (skip to 57:20 to see it)

Not to admit how old I am; But;
When I was a young Lad; I watched them give away a BMW Isetta.
I have always loved small cars and always wanted an Isetta.
I think thats what got me into VW bugs 7 or 8 years later. (My first car)

For you young whippersnappers; Steve Urkle had an Isetta.

I had to watch it. She won the Super Beetle, but she should have kept the Phospho Rust remover ,; she’ll need it.
