|
|
My rear view mirror won't stay on the windshield frame. If I try to adjust it or if I hit a big bump, it'll just falls out. The photos above are of my mounting area and the back of my mirror. I don't think the problem is with the mirror, but rather the little bar that runs along the top of the mounting area. That little bar just floats in the hole, and when I try to mount the mirror it rises up and sometimes sticks in that up position. It seems to me that the bar should be under a little tension to act like a spring to hold the mirror firmly in place, but mine just flops around in there. I tried to look at the mount on another Thing at a show recently, but his mirror didn't want to turn at all. I didn't want to break his mirror so I gave up on looking at his set-up. Anyone have any suggestions or pictures of how the mounting area should look & how that little bar should work? Thanks! |

Are you putting it in on a angle and twisting? About 4 o'clock position. How are we going to discribe this with digital clocks now. |

Our kids are already much smarter than we are; they can figure it out for themselves |

Yes, I'm inserting it at an angle and turning. It just fits very loose in the opening, and falls out if you try to adjust or if hit a big bump. Is that bar/rod along the top supposed to act like a spring? Mine is just held down with gravity and so it easily pushes up and sticks there without holding the mirror in place. |

Thanks for the pictures - at least I know mine has the proper parts. When you press up on that little bar running along the top of the opening, does it lift without any resistance (floating) or does it have some tension on it to keep it in the down position? |

I'm betting one of the spot welds on the left or right has broken and the retaining bar doesn't have enough downward tension to keep the mirror bracket in place. |

Thanks for the input!
So the little bar should be spot welded inside the windshield frame? I don't think mine is attached at either end. The whole bar is just "floating" in the frame, and can move up & down as well as right-to-left a little bit too.
I guess my only option may be to put something (a piece of rubber?) above the bar to keep it down and apply tension to hold the mirror in place. Anyone have any other suggestions? I don't see how I can easily weld it back! |
