I was wondering if anybody knew if I could mount a early model mirror on a 71 Squareback. I just like them better than the later model mirrors and would prefer to have one. |

What's your definition of early? There are at least three different versions that I'm aware of based on the year of the car to which they belong. |

The nut plate in the doors are all the same size, so any mirror should fit any door with the nut plate in it. The hard part is finding a nice early pair of mirrors. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

Do you mean an inside mirror (above the windshield), or an outside mirror (on the door)? _________________ 71 Elm Green FI A/T Squareback |

I meant the inside mirror and specifically would I be able to mount a 61-65 notchback mirror in my 71 squareback. |

Mirrors before '65 are mounted with two screws. Your car requires the '66 and later style that pops in, so the early version wont fit. The '66 mirror will fit your car and has a chrome stem with a polished mirror.

This one is a little rough, but they pop up from time to time. _________________ '68 Sunroof Squareback

The '67 mirror has a chrome stem with a black plastic mirror head. _________________ '68 Sunroof Squareback

I have a '67 here that has an all chrome mirror in it, but I also have a chrome stem with black plastic mirror head that I bought at the Woodburn Bug Run. My '67 might have had a '66 mirror installed in it? _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

Sounds like it might have been a later mirror with the rubber coating taken off. _________________ '68 Sunroof Squareback

You have to pop it out, they are very easy to break. Sometimes it helps to use a screw dry to pry it out. _________________ '68 Sunroof Squareback
